View Full Version : Thermaltake HSF?

I am planning on purchasing a AMD 1.4GHz CPU and need a decent HSF. I don't want a lot of noice (like the delta fans) and don't want to spend too much on the HSF. I have seen a Thermaltake A1100 (Volcano 5) for $12.00 that has a 4550rpm, 32CFM, and uses 2.2Watts.

Will this be sufficient cooling for my CPU? I also have two fans in my case (one in front as an intake, one in back as an output, plus the powersupply fan).

How can a 4550rpm 60mm fan produce almost the same CFM as a 6800rpm fan (Delta 37CFM)?

Thank you,

Forrest Gump

P.S. What is the weight limit (grams) for a HSF on a 1.4GHz Athlon?

check out this thread. It appears that the volcano 5 will be fine for an non-overclocked 1.4.

I'm not sure what the weight limit is for the hsf, but I'm sure that most of the newer hsf abide by it.

and if you wanted to spend like 15 MORE dollars you can get an HSF that is QUIET and OVERCLOCKABLE....the Millenium Glaciator, they run about 30 bucks....haven't bought one (i am going with a SK6 here in like 10 days [with a NEW 1ghz chip]), but i here they are really nice. Watch out if you do buy it, make sure that the clip is ON before you turn on your comp. I always take out my PS and use needle-nose pliers, it works for me

Glaciator is probably the best QUIET HSF combo out. Due to a fairly warm room temp mine doesn't fair to well, however. I also just ordered an SK6 with Delta that should be here on Monday.

Very few heatsinks make a fool of this cliche, but if you plan on overclocking and need a good heatsink and fan combo...you get what you pay for.

Just as a note, I also have a TBird 1.4 @ 1.6 and it runs terribly hot for me. With a room temp below 70F it runs at 51C with both my Glaciator (with another fan bolted to the side blowing toward my twin 80mm outtakes) and a ThermoEngine with Delta fan.

I agree , if your going to spend 170+ dollars on a cpu fork out another 45 bucks and get the SK6 and a good fan to boot.
