I have just got a Samsung 52x24x52x16 Black OEM CD drive (not sure of model number). I also got a round ide cable (Akasa 45cm UV Day-Glow ATA 133). They are as you have probable worked out 80-pin. But on the back on my CD drive it has the pin numbers on it to tell you which way the cable goes and it has
1 40
2 20
This means that the number of pins is 40, but i have an 80 pin cable. I only have one cd drive (this one) and my harddrive is S-ATA. Will i be able to use the 80 pin cable on my cd drive, i do have a 40 pin calbe (came with my mobo) but it is not round, and i have not been able to find a 40 pin round cable. Can someone help me? Thanks in advance.

80 pin cables are backward compatible.

There is no such thing as an 80-pin IDE. :) All IDE cables have the a standard 40 pins, though the number of WIRES running along the cable can be either 40 or 80. The extra 40 wires in an 80 conductor cable are grounds to help reduce interferance, and are just connected to all the other ground wires at some point.
