got msi 865 board and some ocz rev 2 pc3700 ram

tried to run at default settings of 466(233 fsb) at 2.5-3-3-7 with 2.85 vdimm and 1.7 cpu voltage any less voltage and fails memtest

it boots and i can pass memtest and run benchmarks/play games for 45 minutes but i can not pass prime95 for longer than 10 minutes

cpu temps are 58 C under load

the highest fsb i can pass prime 95 is at 222:mad: at 50 C cpu temp

is there something i am overlooking

or do i have a dud for a overclocking cpu?

any suggestions out there to bring prime95 stability for at least a few hours

Might be BIOS settings. I don't know anything about MSI mobos, but make sure you lock the PCI/AGP to default speeds. Oh yeah... this should of been posted in the Intel CPU section.

Try running it at 2.3.3.5 and take it down to 2.8 and run memtest.

i can pass memtest at current settings above so I dont understand y i would reduce voltage and lower cl settings to run memtest again, could u please explain ?

did u mean prime95? that is the program that i can not pass for more than 10 minutes at 233 fsb 2.5-3-3-7

No, not Prime95, Memtest, look it up, its useful for everything including diagnostics if your computer decides to crap out on you out of nowhere. Try memtest to check stability of your RAM. IMO if Prime95 can run about an hour before getting an error, thats stable enough for me! ;)

I have had the very same board which proved a great overclocker for me!
(nothing i have tried since has been any better! ic7/p4p800d-e p4p800se)

just make sure you set the memory at 400mhz as this is the 1-1 ratio!

good luck.........
