Is there any difference between the Kyro II card made by Hercules and the card made by Apollo?????(the Apollo card is down to 78.00)

I have a 3D Prophet 4500. I'm trying to find out what the differences are. I believe the 4500 as 5ns SDRAM. Trying to find out of the apollo card has higher access time memory chips.

Can't seem to find too much info on the Apollo card!! The big differences you would probably see would be...addition or absense of a DVI or SVideo Port, different memory times, addition or absence of Active cooling.

Most reviews state that the Kyro II chip runs very cool. Some board makers..like apollo might opt to go with passive cooling only whereas Hercules tends to add some nice extras like an orb style gpu hsf. I'll do a little more searching and keep you posted.

okay chaos...I did a little more diggin' and I found out that the "Apollo" line of cards is made by a company called joytech. The one picture I found of the Kyro II card showed it with a passive heat sink...no fan.

Really not that hard to add a fan though..as I'm sure you already know. The card looks like a steal at $78us. I paid a little over $100us a few months ago.

You might want to try calling the distributor and see if they'll check the speed of the memory chips...might be worth a shot. Good Luck...you can get to Joytech's Kyro II section here (http://www.joytech.com/product/vga/vga.htm). Good luck with your final decision :)
