View Full Version : P3 HSF or my Alpha 66
I just upgraded from a Celey 566 to a P3 1GB. Woohoo!
The P3 came with a HUGE heatsink. Should I use this instead of my Alpha66? ie., Which provides better cooling?
PS: Please don't flame the Newbie if this has been well covered already....

Hi Zorom
More depends by your chip temps, but otherwise the Pep66 it's absolutly better, especially if you wanna OC it, like you'll do soon as possible :-)
I hope it helps you.

Yeah almost any HSF that isnt stock (not including the ORBS) are better then the stock ones that come with the computer, just know that and youll be fine :)
Yeah, that's what I thought...it was just that the stock heatsink was so much bigger than the Alpha 66 I thought it might be better.
I've overclocked this sucker to 1.12 GB's. Unfortunately, that's my max with the P3V4X (150 FSB max) :( Not nearly as much fun overclocking as my C566 was with a default 66MHz FSB. I had it running at 980 with the Alph.
The temps seem high to me...close to 40C at idle. MB temp is 26C and ambient is prolly around 21C.
The pep66 is an awsome cooler. I really doubt the stock HS is better than the ALPHA. If your board will handle a higher fsb you could try a 70-85 watt pelt with the pep66. Just make sure you have everything sealed off so you don't get condensation.
As said before, the stock hs won't be better.
And what wasn't said, you don't have to worry about flames in this board. :D
...but are those temps normal...seem high to me. Typically around 38-40C at idle and max's in the mid 60's.

Uhmmm, seems to be something wrong, it's too higher the temp @full load, try reseating your Pep66.
I hope it helps you :-)
