I am going to save my money for one of these to go with my 8k7a+. Just imagine how high you could overclock one of those things!! They're also going to release the 1ghz duron. Just look herehttp://www.theinquirer.net/09080116.htm :D :D :D :D :D

Why get excited about the 1.53 Palomino in september ,january - febuary 2002 AMD will be realeasing its Sledge Hammer and ClawHammer Processors that will blow away anything that is coming out or that is out now. The Sledge hammer and claw will have 64Bit processing technology which will be way advanced then any damn Palomino I say if you can wait I would get a sledge hammer :-) That things gona rock muwahaha.

Of course, Intel designed that bloody chip solely for clock speed, so it's kinda difficult to keep up the numbers game.
The 500 mhz difference is mostly an illusion. The new Palomino 1.5 chips will have SSE incorporated - and with full FPU + SSE, AMD will still have an advantage over the 2ghz "Crapium 4"
The problem with AMD is their marketing. People will see that SIntel has a 2 gig chip, and in the uneducated eyes it will seem that SIntel has the best chip on the market - especially with SIntel releasing their new chipsets that support less expensive DDR memory. AMD has said that they are going to try and educate the masses, through Marketing campaigns, so as the SIntel chip doesn't seem so good after all.
But it will be hard, and especially when SIntel is going to slash their CPU prices about 50% at the time of the 2gig release. AMD has quite a hurdle to get over.

I work in a contract manufacturing company - and it is hard to show or prove to our clients - even though we are running most every configuration imaginable.
Our new customer, a high end graphics designer, still thought that the SIntel PIII chips were the hottest thing on the market. And now with P4's at 1.8 and 2gig on the horizon - they don't even want to hear AMD, even when I show them side by side results.
I know where you're coming from.

Well, I might just end up getting a Clawhammer if they come out that early. Here's hoping it is a good performer in 32-bit and actually gives a nice advantage. I doubt it'll come out that early, but it would be nice. Givin' the prices of the current Athlon MP server chips, the Clawhammer shouldn't be too expensive. I just hope there are consumer solutions (ie, motherboards under $200). Otherwise I'll be forced to go with a Palamino/Morgan or Appalooza/Thoroughbread. Come on AMD, Clawhammer can take back the performance AND MHz crown!

ouch, anyway like I was saying, the Palamino would appear sometime in september, but I still wondering why the heck they recalled the Duron 1giger?? Anyway, I'm waiting for the AMD Throughbred processor to emerge, we need .13 Micron technology!
I hate to blab this but its going to be true, Intel will have a 2.4GHz Processor by January.
They will follow with 2.2GHz in late october than 2.4GHz in December. And according to Sharky Extreme, AMD will be at 1.66GHz by end of December. ok so to wrap this up,
AMD Palamino 1.66GHz vs Intel Willimete 2.40GHz
AMD will be slaughtered if they keep this holding stream up!
And early next year, kiss Willimete bye bye and say hello to Northwood.
AMD will fight back with Throughbred then eventually Barton.
This whole AMD vs Intel is going to be twisted all to hell, agree?

Clawhammer was pushed back to Q4 2002, sorry bro. Infact, the whole 64-bit AMD platform was pushed back just recently I believe. AMD wants Barton to get some action.

The Intel vs. AMD debate could go on for ever, as to who has the best chip.
I see it kind of like the battle I have at home with the kids - Babe Ruth vs. Snickers. They prefer Babe Ruth, I prefer Snickers. Essentially each is the same - made from the same ingredients. Then there is the Pepsi vs. CocaCola debate.
You will have your hard core Intel users swearing by Intel no matter what, and AMD users swearing by AMD.
What it ultimately comes down to is, who markets there product the best. And that so far has been Intel and why they have the major market share.
The Blue Man Group rides again.

If marketing is what AMD needs, then they should have a female group advertising their processors. The Blue Men would then die a horrible death. IMHO the Intel bunny people (the guys in the dust suits) could have kicked the Blue Men's bum any day. I heard that now AMD will start marketing their efficient Athlon pipeline.

I actually saw the Blue Man Group perform when I was in Vegas, I went in loathing them for those f'n commercials and came out looking for the Audio DVD of their performance. It's one hell of a show.
On topic now, AMD doesn't have to think of a why to show the masses that numbers aren't everything. But in a society that believes that more HP must be better (not taking into account torque which is the more important number) they have an uphill battle.

And think most people in the forum are pretty up to date on the hole CPU road map performance issue. The average Joe has not much of a clue other then numbers. AMD needs to get the word out. for sure.

AMD is late getting on the promotional wagon. They need something phenomenal to overcome the Intel marketing blitz that is on the horizon. Intel is going to drive home that they are the 1st 2ghz CPU and that means that they are the fastest.
Short from Jennifer Lopez doing a spot for AMD in the buff or something of that nature - how do you convince the computer illiterate mases that P4 2.0ghz is not better than Athlon 4 1.5ghz. If I'm the uneducated buyer, hey 2.0 is bigger than 1.5, therefore it has to be better and faster.
Anyone else have any marketing concepts for AMD?

If they could actually get the point across about the difference between RPM and Horsepower, they might have a chance. Just tell the customer that the Intel chip is a 2 Liter engine with a 10k redline and the AMD is a 3 Liter with an 8k redline. Doesn't spin as fast, but does the job better.
