Is the XP preview crippled or something? What will be the difference between it and the upcoming full version? I am dumb by the way.

Windows XP Professional Release candidate software comes with most of the features that will be in the final product, but without the final touches to development and testing.
That is copy and pasted from the xp website with some slight editing(removed sales info). This will basicly be the release version of xp only it will have a few more touches.
I like xp a lot it is very stable and after you remove/turnoff all the bloatware it is a good sharp os.
EDIT * it is only good for 180 days to keep using it after that you have to register with ms and pay for it.
yap release 2 will be the final version basicly.
its just out so they can fix all the bugs.

488mb, I just downloaded it.
RC2 is the last final revision before RTM hits the streets. RTM stands for Release To Manafactures. This date has started at august 8th and has now moved to august 22nd. RC2 was build number 2526, since then the newest build released is 2535. so at least were getting close to rtm and their not lazy about still updating it. once rtm hits the streets expect a "warez" version to be out at n+6 hours. seeing that it takes time to actually rip the OEM cd and put it on the internet. the avg user should be downloading it as soon as late that night or early that next morning.
oh btw, that whole 180 day thing, well yeah if your legit tester or have a key from a tester, but us cool guys have already actiavted windows and have no need to watch the activation meter tick down. heh

Just a gentle reminder that O/C borders on the irrational and paranoid when it comes to post which even mention or endorse WAREZ of any kind. Would hate to see anyone get into trouble in this thread..
I sure hope you you aren't referring to my last post. I was just stating what's on TechTV and CNN. The illegal distrobution of programs that is mentioned at least once a week on TechTV. And it's commonly know to just about everyone in this forum that just about anything they want(tho illegal) can be found in those cute little search-N-get programs. of course that's just my two cents. oh btw, i don't endorse anything that is associated with illegal anything.

I don't like the activation keys microsoft want's to plug in. Smart tags I can live with, but not with a constant control, like "oh no:eek: , what if microsoft discovers I listen to downloaded music, or that I a using Office 2000 that I borrowed from work cuz I don't have any similar app, and it costs too much to buy the newest version that is too resource hungry".
Here (http://yikesdoug.epinions.com/content_1413128324) 's a link I got from another forum, to some info on WinXP.

I have noticed in many forums that a good link to XP product activation and MS$ spying kills the thread.
Strange at best.
However I can confirm everything from that link. And I do it from MS$ own documentation. Its all out there. The plan to go rental software with the ability for MS$ to turn it off if they are unhappy with you. Product updates that put product activation in software that had none previously. Media software that will need a internet connection to ask permission to play a song or video.
Does anyone really believe that a MS$ product is just going to turn itself off without informing MS$ that it is doing so, why, and on who.
Like the person from the artical. I want nothing to do with any of this. I have not installed any MS$ product for over a year and am currently planning the conversion over to Linux.

This seems like the right thread to pose this question.
Let's say I have a small network at home.
Three or four computers and I decide to upgrade to Windows XP.
I am the only person who uses these computers, so I have only one copy of the operating system and various software, such as Office 2000.
From Microsoft's standpoint then, am I obliged to PURCHASE a copy of Windows XP and other software for each computer that I own and operate?

 Yes, that's their whole point. One machine one copy purchased for it.
Two machines, Two copies purchased.
WOW! This is really going to help their sales in second world countries where software theft is the rule rather than the exception. NOT!!
My guess! MS has just found a way to INCREASE piracy in 1st world countries as well. Increase resentment = increased thief.
But Bill is a control freak, it would seem that from his point of view it's better to inconvenience every customer who buys his product that let anyone steal it.
Hey that's his choice.
Now what about the covert sealing personal information for later undisclosed use.........

The XPSpyware issue, and including other software spying is the real issue here.
Yes bill should get paid and if we do not like the agreement then move on to something else.
However that said. They should also be held responceiable. If they spy and information gets out they should find themselves in a position of needing to repair the damage, and if they cannot then pay in cash for your trouble.
Right now its all one way. However with hijacking of websites, spying, smarttags. Soon this is going to be in the news, later it will be resolved.
In the meantime it seems these companies do not mind stealing from us.
