I am sorry to ask a stupid noob question, but if you don't ask you won't know...right? Any way, I want to have a seperate hard drive to store files on (mainly music). If I wanted to do this how would I go about this? Would I need to do a RAID or what ever and use an PCI controler and then hook up my other drive to an IDE channel on the mobo? I plan on using a NF7 mobo and seagate drives for my main drive(s) and a 40 gig drive salvaged from my old compaq to store music on.

All you need to do is hook the harddrive up to the IDE channel on your motherboard. You may need to set it to slave if its sharing a IDE ribbon with another drive.

so I don't need to RAID or anything? I can just use 2 hard drives one new seagate for main storage and the old salvaged drive as a slave to store my music to? I am also going use a cd rom drive and a cd burner, will I have enough channles to run all of this stuff?

No you don't have to use raid. You can put both drives on one ide cable and the two cd's on the other.

You can update the driver for the raid controllers and use one of the channels for a regular drive as well. This would increase disk to disk transfer rates without using raid because they are on seperate channels.

Disregard the second part. After looking at your manual online I see you only have two IDE's.
