What's up? I'm only getting 60FPS in the original UT! My old RADEON 9200SE got upwards of a hundred, and my new 9600NP can't even beat 60! At stock speed it gets 60, and even at 422/251 can't beat that limit!

ummm do u have vsync enabled? maybe when u installed the new card it went back to on, turn it off, the vsync restricts the fps to the refresh rate

if that doesnt fix it, when u installed the new card, did u do a complete clean install (uninstall old drivers, clean old drivers using some sort of driver cleaner, then install new card) ?

ya, I've reinstalled Windoze a few times since removing the old card for various reasons, but I'll check the VSYNC now. Thanx. Why wud ne1 ever put a restriction like that on in the first place?

<edit> Just checked prefs, and it doesn't even have a VSYNC option. It has a min. desired framerate box, into which is entered 100. </edit>

what drivers are you using? don't even have a vsync option?

You can also put your monitor refresh rate higher, depending on the monitor.

when there are more frames rendered then the monitor can output, sometimes there is a phenomenom known as tearing. the screen kinda looks weird. since your monitor cannot show more then 60 fps (Hz) there would be no effect if the card showed more then 60fps. it may be a UT option.

VSync is a feature in UT, you have to go to the advanced preferences window though by opening up the console using the ~ key and typing in preferences and look under direct3d and you'll see the VSync option. ;)

ah, OK. Thanx.

<edit>I checked UT's VSYNC option, and it was off. Do the drivers have a systemwide VSYNC option?</edit>

Yes, goto the ATI control panel under the 3D tab. You'll have to hit the "custom" button to access v-sync.

THat setting was set to "Application Preference", so it should have been off. However, I just set it to always off an all is good. Thanx all!
