When I put my puter on standby I still hear the PSU running. How can this be changed?

sure its not a psu that keeps running for afew mins after shutting down?

sure your pcs actually shutting down? (eg is the power led on the mobo still on *(not the standby led))

When I go to Start->Shut Down->Stand By
Windows shuts down and the monitor shuts down, but the PSU syill runs and does not go off. IS there a setting in BIOS or a jumper to make the system go down on stand by?

Even in standby mode your system still uses energy so PSUs need to stay on. When you go into standby mode you're just putting your system into a suspended state where it turns off power to the HD and CPU but keeps power to memory. If you want your PSU to turn off do a regular system shutdown.

Errr, you are right. I feel like an idiot now. I should have known that. I am just not used to hearing the PSU. On my old Gateway system, I never heard it. Then again, it was not 350W only 200W. That might make a difference. Or that I have a El-Cheapo PSU that happened to come with the case :)

What part is obsolete? The "stand by" or "shut down" function

both really, standby is obsolete as i dont see much power saving. if ur pcs gonna idle use s2k bus dissconnect. and windows shutdown option isnt as usefull since atx

In your bios' screen (under 'power management' or something similar) there should be an option of what type of standby is used, in mine you can choose "S1/S2 or S3". S1-2 on mine will not shut off the fans, and s3 shuts everything off, but even then that may not make your psu fan(s) shut off.

Hope that helps.. if it doesnt it is probably the psu at fault.
