Here's a good one for you guys

Never seen this one before, nor could i find anything of use on a search of this site or

google One of my systems will freeze and say *** Hardware Malfunction Call your Hardware Vendor for Support *** System Halted and i have to hit reset to reboot. it does not matter what it is doing at the time (although it is typically between 40 minutes and two hours although it went all last night with no occurences) and it just started yesterday after 4 months of stable operation. Weird part was i just got the AC repaired so i dropped the ambient from 88f to about 70f and my case temps and cpu temps dropped about 6 degrees c each. Here's the rundown of the components

1800+
Epox 8KHA
512 (2 x 256) old pc2100 ddr
geforce 3
120gb WD 8mb drive
audigy 1
D link 2 port usb 2.0 card
Netgear FA311 NIC
all in an antec sonata

all drivers are as updated as possible running windows 2000

Temps currently at about 38 idle 44 load

Thanks

MSKB #222973 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;222973&Product=win2000) verified my initial ideas about this problem. This message explains that there was some type of hardware malfunction, so it might be good to figure out what is malfunctioning. Are any additional messages included, like these, included?
"NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error

NMI: Channel Check / IOCHK

NMI: Fail-safe timer

NMI: Bus Timeout

NMI: Software NMI generated

NMI: Eisa IOCHKERR board x "

Remove any non-essential cards one by one, ex. modem, sound card, network card. Remove each one by one and test the system then. If that does not help, try a different stick of ram.
Then try what the article says, set "Plug and Play OS" to NO. If that does not work, try fail-safe defaults. Also, if you are overclocked make sure you relax your memory timings and reduce your overclock before trying any of this. Good luck!

Thanks for the ideas

No OC at all, this is a WP'ing/net access box. No other messages are displayed i wrote the message verbatim. I was hoping to keep from yanking cards but doesnt look like there is much choice. Thanks again

Sorry poor reading skills. I would get a similar error with my TV Tuner after installing Kazzalite Codec Pack. Had to remove it.

does this happen when your idle?

long shot of an idea but sometimes s2k bus dissconnect function can cause hardware issues on older cpus, altho im talking thunderbird old not really pally or tbred. worth a try tho. issue was that after disconnecting the bus some cpus/mobos had issues reconnecting back.

It has happened when at idle and when at load. Again this only started happening yesterday after being running consistantly (rebooting perhaps once a week or so) for over four months and happens sometimes 20 minutes after a reboot or now as it stands i am at over 8 hours and have not had to reboot during multiple tasks and hours of idle. This is one of the weirdest things i've ever seen i am almost to the point of thinking it has something to do with me dropping the room temp so much but i can think of no reason why reducing temps would cause problems.

What is the last program you installed? That may be freezing it.

Or... I killed my last system cause i never turned it off...was running for like a year...no screensaver....be sure to turn off once in a while (every day)!

Last program installed was MBM 5 about 3 weeks ago or so and when im not in the room i always turn the monitors in here off since they heat up the room like furnaces too many cases of burn in that i have seen at my college
