For school i'm writing a 12 page paper on cryptography and encryption, namely should it be regulated? what kinds are out there? Who uses encryption, and for what?
I've already gone into DES and AES, I started with the history (ancient romans encrypting military orders, and what not.) I've searched the internet far and wide, and like most subjects, there is more useless information than not.

My question, does anyone out there happen to be extremely knowledgable on the subject, or does anyone just know of a website that would actually be beneficial. I've checked the public library too, however i can't get a book that was published in the past 15 years. People on these forums know more about computers than pretty much anyone so i'm sure there's someone out there who could help me out. Thanks in advance guys.
Kevin

This should be a good page on the subject:
http://cr.yp.to/crypto.html

Encryption shouldn't be regulated.

There's a company selling commercial quantum cryptography devices now also. The stuff is uncrackable. Link (http://science.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/04/12/1336238&mode=flat&tid=126&tid=134&tid=172&tid=93).

Thanks guys, yeah the links didn't work for me either but the quantum encryption is interesting. Thanks, keep em coming if you got em.

Anyone else have any imput, i could really use it. I'm at 7 pages and i need 12. I've gone into RSA, DES, and AES now as well as the department of Justices policy. Anyone have some good links, or personal knowledge. I'm leaning more towards government policy now but all parts of my paper could use some help so whatever you have i'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance,
Kevin

i'm mostly done with the paper now, i did touch on public key encryption. And as much as i agree with you about cryptology not being regulated, i was looking more for reasons. Such as it should be regulated b/c terrorists could encrypt their plans and the government should be able to decrypt that. Or it shouldn't be regulated b/c terrorists aren't likely to use software, or techniques that the government can decrypt so why sacrifice the privacy of honest citizens. Thanks eveyrone

Encryption shouldn't, and couldn't be regulated. Its just math.

The software is already out there. Its pretty stupid for the US gov't to outlaw certain types of math for its citizens - in the meantime the bad people don't care and will do that math anyways.
