I was with America Online (gAy O L), I have paid 2 months of service, and I have been with them for 7 months, they keep "comping" me months, which has been really cool. When I log on to AOL is says "connected @ 56K", but when I check my "connection", its more like 32K.

I switched to EarthLink this month, and it seems good, but I cant connect @ 56K. I switched for a "online promotion" that I'm participating in, I will probably switch to someone else soon.

Neither of these guys offer DSl in my area.

Any suggestions for a good ISP, that is cheap, and has fast connections. I have a 56K V.90 modem, and a dedicated phone line.

AOL $21.95 month
EarthLink $17.95 month

one word:
cable.

I love cable...I will NEVER go back to dial-up. If I had to, I'd probably spend my internet time crying.

Of all the dial-up ISPs that I have used, Earthlink was by far the best. Great customer support, and very little hassle. They have multiple access numbers, try a different one in your area and see if it makes a difference.

Betty, I agree. Cable ROCKS!

it could be a problem with your telephone line
to check, pick up the phone, dial 1, then listen for any noise, if there is a lot, then you have a good line, if it is noisy (backround noise) then that iwll degrade performace

Sry for the yelling/jerkness of me but look above first post you quoted and said hehe at :08 then replied with an HONEST reply at :11. Why not just simply forgo the hehe and quote with a reply?

You have done this in other threads. I scroll and see the your post back to back.

Oh you must mean you must see my name allways posted under a topic or something... Well I stay up all night and have my email to check for new messages every 5 min.. If not the next day I go to check my email I have over 60 messages to check and I don't feel like checking them all.

? No

I mean you post a reply of some sort then a few minutes, sometimes within the same minute you post again! It is spam. I wouldnt mind if it was done once in a while but you are the worst offender I have seen to date. If need be I can search and show you what I mean.

I am not ragging on the content of all your posts but more the fact that you are posting back to back to back. Simply try to keep all of your ideas in one post. At least one post per 5 second block.

Thnx..

what is ADSL...SDSL?

ADSL Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (phone line)
maximum data rate both upstream and downstream is different

SDSL Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line (also phone line)
maximum data rate both upstream and downstream is the same

ADSL is fast, and a good choice but you need a good phone line for best results. I use Bellsouth $45 a mo. I get 1.5Mbps download almost always!

Cable is a hasel, The more people in your area that use it, the slower the connection!

thats not really true
not if you have speed caps and if the Node that is supplying u has enough bandwith its when u have uncapped cable where it slows down

help me... DSL is not available from Earthlink, BellSouth, AT&T, Aol..what are my options?

Cable modem? Does that require a special "phone line"? I also just heard that DSL sucks, I had it before (in Cali) and it was really cool, but I heard it goes down easily?

A cable modem uses the same cable wire that hooks up to your tv...All you need is a spliter that runs from the Tv to your cable modem...both can have it's up's and downs but cable looks to be the fastest over a wide area.
