I've been running win2k for a while now...I've decided to install winxp home.
I ran the disk and it downloaded setup files to my C drive, and was attempting to install onto my storage drive D
I've downloaded the boot floppies, but they are giving me a Disk I/O error at boot up...
/help please!!!

Well, after fighting with the windows partioning software (BIOS, or whatever). I got my drive partitioned oddly, and after -three- trys, Windows is on the correct partition...but its formatted FAT32...for whatever reason. I think my XP Home disc is possessed...I'm not completely sure.
Will the Fat32 file system on my OS partition really make that big of a difference for Windows XP? All of my other program files will be on a NTFS partition...
I -really- dont want to have to do this all over again.
I would go with the NTFS at this point. I think the main reason would be the 4G file size limit on 32.

I agree with turd. NTFS is much more stable & gives you more options.
Convert from FAT32 to NTFS is EASY:
Go to START > RUN & type CMD
This will open the Command Prompt Window.
At the C:\> prompt type CONVERT C: /fs:ntfs
Reboot & as comp restarts file system will be converted with no data loss.
Good Luck!

I would agree with the NTFS movement here, only if you have a large paritition. NTFS is slower and consumes more space than FAT32, but it is more secure and you can do more as far as security and whatnot.
