View Full Version : Am I doing something wrong?

Just got a 1.4 AYHJA and a 8K7A+ (sounds like a popular mobo around here) with Crucial PC2100 256MB RAM, using a 300w P/S and video through a Leadtek GeForce2 GTS. After installing these basics (outside the case), I turn the system on just to see the code show "00", that's not even in the manual - No POST, nothing from the monitor. I contacted Epox through email and told me (amazingly, within 3 hours at night) to reseat everything and reset the cmos. That didn't work - same result. Anyone has an idea what's going on? Any help would be appreciated.
Does the led between the cpu and the memory sockets come on?

Yes, all the leds lights up (including that on the GeForce2) and all the fans began the spin, the CD trays even open up and close if I hit the eject button.

Have you tried it with all the equipment installed? I don't know what compels people to run a setup not installed, you might of had a little static electricity. Even a little shock that you don't feel can kill a M/B and CPU. Slow down and re-group. This is not a slam towards you, just keeping new guys to the hobby from frying their first setup.
You probably have a bad motherboard since I cant look at it myself than thats what I would say. You do have the memory in the correct slot right? Since the POST isnt working then I would say that you have a bad mobo. Get it exchanged and next time install it in the case first.
Well if you have another cpu that will fit try that if still nothing bad motherboard probably.

nothing wrong with running a pc on the bench I do it all the time !!
make sure you touch a grounded surface before you touch any components" in or out "of the pc

Thanks for everyone's input! I actually did the entire setup outside of the case on a workbench and it gave me the 00. I made sure there's no short with screws and stuff underneath the board.
But what I did was take my 8k7a+ and my 1.4 AHYJA "4" back to Fry's Electronics (where I got the mobo) here in the Bay Area and have them test it for me - same result even with their AHYJA "4". However, I asked (well, convinced) them to try it with a "Y" the board miraculously spring to life! It posts and everything. So maybe it's something wrong with the cpu stepping and the 8k7a?
BTW: They're nice enough to exhange my "4" with the "Y", that's a sweet deal and that's very nice of them to do. I'm shopping there for everything from now on.

Oh yes, forgot to mention. I initially ran the setup inside the case, but realizing that it doesn't work, I took the setup outside the case to make sure that my case isn't shorting the board underneath.
I'm more of a lurker here than a newbie. My first overclock was with a P2/266 and got it up to 333. Nothing special, but it's fun.
thats some good news hey!!
i also deal with a local shop and the guys are great:D
