Well, we just got new workstations here at the office, and on the spec sheet I noticed we've all got Quadro FX3000's. I was pretty happy, to say the least. :D

Some guys at the office were asking what kind of differences in performance these professional graphics cards displayed as opposed to consumer enthusiast cards, and I wasn't sure and didn't really have any benchmarks to show. Can anyone give a general overview of the differences in performance and applicable uses for the FX3000 contrasted to a similar consumer card (obviously the 3000 isn't built as a gaming card, but specific differences, perhaps, in benchmarks and real-world applications and uses)?

Just curious, as I know this is a great card, but I like having something to compare things to so I can have a frame of reference.

Thanks guys,
- Dave

If I remember tomorrow I'll give you synthetic benchmark numbers (SPECViewPerf) comparing the Quadro4 980XGL, the Quadro FX1100 and the QuadroFX 3000. I tested all three cards in the same Xeon 2.8 machine.

http://www.spec.org/gpc/opc.data/vp711/summary.html

That's a list of results submitted to SPEC, but not all the cards are in the same machine so the gains are hard to quantify.

We use our workstations almost primarily for CATIA and Unigraphics so I don't know how they justify the cost of the 3000. We simply don't need them. If photorealistic rendering is your game, they are spot on the best cards around (until the FX 4000 becomes available).

Sure... what benchmarks do you want me to run?

I've yet to find any benchmarks that are multithreaded, so you're pretty much asking for benchmarks of a downclocked single barton.

PerlAddict, here's the Quadro tests I did. All three cards are in the "new rig" machine on my list. All tests are done with the 53.13 driverset.
