Does the Elsa Gladiac 920 have DVD hardware acceleration? I would think that it should, and I think it said it did on the box (which is long gone though, so I can't check). I ask because PowerDVD doesn't give me the option to turn on hardware acceleration and it didn't detect that I had it. Also, how dramatically does this improve the quality of display (i.e. is it worth getting a stand-alone decoder card keeping in mind that I watch A LOT of DVDs)...

I recommend you get a hardware decoder. I have both a software (WinDVD) and hardware decoder(Creative Dxr3). I can imediately see the difference in picture quality between these two decoders. The better being the hardare decoder. You should see if you can afford a decoder such as creative dxr3 or Hollywood Magic card......great purchase if you spend a lot of time watching DVD's.......

I noticed the same thing with Powerdvd... but windvd pays dvds just as well, and I think that's all cpu... theory -- only the reference drivers released by the manufacturer include the driver for the hardware accelerator (noticed this with a leadtek card I had).

Really never made a difference to me as I rarely even use my PC dvd, and when I do it plays fine.
