In a dual configuration for graphics and multi-media should I build a system using the Pentium-4 processors or is the price difference going to the Pentium-4 Xeon's worth the money...Any links to comparisons on these processors would be greatly appreciated...

There are several differences you have to consider. The P4 and P4 xeon have a different pin count so you need a different mobo's for the two processors.

The P4 Xeon also requires some kind of funky power supply which is most likely more expensive. The P4 Xeons w/ 1 or 2MB cache and DDR memory would certainly make a great multimedia board but the cost right now is HUGE.

Considering the current P4 architecture, you might be better off to save a boatload of of money and go w/ Dual PIII 1Gig chips or wait for the .13 Micron P4's.

Here's a couple of links:

Whee! 100 posts! :D

Xeons have larger cache which makes them run upto 4x faster, they also cost 4x as much
with a PIII xeon it costs 3,000 for a 2 mb cache 1 gig xeon
but that 2 mb cache woulld be the equivelent of 4 PIIIs running together

The difference between the P4 Xeons and the regular P4s is they support SMP configurations and come in a 602 pin socket. Here (http://www.supermicro.com/PRODUCT/MotherBoards/SUPER%20P4DC6%20SPEC/SUPER%20P4DC6%20SPEC.htm) is a dual P4 Xeon motherboard.

If your really interested in a dual P4 Xeon system word has it there will be a slightly cheaper version of this motherboard released soon that will be the same as this one except it will not have the onboard SCSI controller. It will be called the P4DCE. Also, there is said to be a price drop on existing P4 Xeons coming along with the introduction of a 2.0GHz version around August 26.
