I am getting a new video card. Would I notice a big difference in both visual quality and fps on the GeForce 2 MX than that of the TNT2 M64 32mb?
Yes!! Big difference. geforce 2 MX will beat a TNT blindfolded, gagged, and equiped with concrete shoes.

Especially an M64.
They're ridiculous.

TNT2 is a generation behind the curve but good for a system not primary for new games. I love my Geforce 3 :D
Maestro
Get the GeForce 2 MX dont even look at TNT2, But get a
GeForce 2 MX 400 Its a little better but its worth it!
The M64 is actually a takeoff of the original TNT2 but only has a 64-bit wide bus instead of the 128-bit bus of the regualr TNT2. I have one of these cards in my fileserver and it is DEFINATELY not for gaming. It would play TFC way back when but it was a little choppy at times even then.
Go for the MX most certainly...

Get the GeForce2 MX 400 64mb, it is a good card and it is under $100. I really like the MX 400.
If you have $$$$, you can get a GF2 Ultra for $200, now that is a great video card.
mx400 every time!!!! never mind the same ball-park, it's playing a different sport!!!

I have a Riva TNT2 M64 and let me tell you it is crap all the way. I thought about a mx400 because of the price and the good reveiws but am going with the elsa gladiac, but for you my friend if you are trying to choose between a TNT2 or mx400 go mx400, ive seen em in EB as low as 85 dollars brand new. good luck

Here is a simple solution, get a GeForce 2 Ultra for $104+shipping;

I've got a M64 and it's a good card, just a bit outdated. It really can't compete with the MX.
But remember that the MX is a somewhat VALUE card.
It may be found on many versions :
1. 64 bits DDR
2. 128 bits SDR
3. 64 bits SDR
The first two are very similar in performance (in fact almost identical). The two best variations of it.
But the 64bit SDR version is no good. It's memory bandwidth is not that different from the M64 (also 64bit SDR), the only difference being taken from different mem clockspeeds.
If you buy a really cheap MX, it may be a 64bit SDR version stacked with 6-ns memory chips. In other words : Almost no improvement from the TNT2.
Being clear that I'm talking about memory bandwidth. The MX GPU is way better, and video quality should be tha same in both cards.
My advice : buy an MX. Just be smart enough not to grab a 64bit SDR one, and try to get one with low-latency memory chips. They can be found versions with latencies as low as 3.5-ns (DDR i think).
Good Luck !
How can I tell if the MX card I just bought (noname brand from a Dell computer) is 64 bits SDR? Pic below:
Can you provide zooms on the memory and the stickers on the top? I should be able to answer that but can't make out the details...

GF2 is what you want if you can't afford a GF3!

Ok, so ill get the Gf2. What is the performance difference between the MX200 64mb and the MX400 32mb?

Here is a review of both chips. the MX 400 is much better than the MX 200;

If I were to buy a vid card right now I prob wouldn't even consider a GeForce2 MX.
If you are really strapped for cash a Readon LE 32mbDDR would be the way to go at about $70
The next step up would be the Kyro II prophit 4500 agp 64 for about $105. But this card has poor driver suport. If it ever does get good driver support it will be a competitor for a GeForce2 Pro & Ultra.
If you have about $135 plus shipping then GeForce2 Pro 64mbDDR is the way to go.
All three will give you better performance than the MX card.

I would also go with g2 pro 64 just save your money untill you can buy somthing good. No use patching a sinking ship

Look at the reviews. The MX200 is a chopped MX400. 64 bit mem bandwidth. Go for the MX. If it is good quality you can OC it to what the MX400 is without spending the extra $$$.

Radeon LE
It competes with the Gf2 Pro let alone the MX
PINKY,
Here's a zoom...can you tell if its 64 bits?
there is a big difference between tnt2 and gforce. The tnt2 architecture is 64 bit but on the other hand the gforce is 256 bit architecture. The gpu clock isn´t the same, and the gforce has more effects by hardware than tnt2´s like transform and lighting...
Simply choose gforce is better and has more fps and quality!!
