ok...crazy idea...id do it myself, but i dont have all the hardware for it...but my freind was thinking of putting an xbox into an ammo can....ok...then i thought, what about adding a second CDROM to it, so u can play regular and backups (regular xbox games are read backwards, adding a regular CDROM only plays forwards)....then that turned into..hey...why not get a full tower computer case, put xbox with the 2 drives, ps2....and if somehow possible Dream cast (since u can get NES, SNES, Sega, ps1, VCD, DiVx to play)? and yea sure GC...possibly then car stereo ina CDROM bay (i saw it on here somewhere i beleive)....be the ULTIMATE gaming rig....DC would make up for all the old and lost systems

justa thought..im no big gammer, i only have a ps2, havent touched it in months...sisters play it mainly..i would deff do it if i could..im just wonderin if someone is crazy enough to try it

that is so beautiful. wow. the way you carry the theme really puts this mod a few steps above most other people. i love the colors and the etch. but try to find a way to get the etch to show up a little better. maybe you could direct a few ultrabright leds toward the center of the lexan/plexi from the edge so they carry through the window. anyway, looks very nice, and i appreciate the effort that went into photographing it the way you did.

one question, how did you do the symbol on the front door?

Thank you! I really appreciate it:) . I recently added a Vantec fan card to the case and used a little sand paper on the etch. It glows a very light blue. I don't have any pics of that because I recently sold the case:( (new case and water:D ). The front was cut out with a dremel and needle files. Then, it was filled with silicone and lit by a 4" CCFL.

aah, nice idea. good job, and that's awesome that you can sell your case like that. keep modding!

good job

first...all paint used was car paint from a spray-can and natural finish (i.e. no sanding with 1500 grit paper for a mirror finish)

the case started as a screaming-yellow...which i hated. i sanded it down to the bare metal and treated it with some protectant to keep it from rusting. I got some pin-stripe from an auto parts store to clean up the edges of the black paint and to for the stripe on the the top. The letters, as funny as it may seem, are actually just print outs from my printer.....i couldnt find a font and size combination in stick-on letters that i liked, so i prnted them out and used a hobby-knife to cut them out and get rid of the white edge. to apply them i sprayed a coat of clear-coat on the top of the case and used the pin-stripe as a giude (realize: i did test for proper spacing BEFORE i put on the clear-coat.....i suggest you do the same to keep fro having spacing spoblems ;) ). using the clear-coat as a temporary glue was my own idea...but you can use it, too ;). after applying the letters i used about 3 cans of clear-coat on the top alon.....just to make sure they stay down and protected....after the first can the edges of the paper still shown through because the paper DOES absorb the clear-coat. if you want a similar effect i suggest you try my method. the clear-coat glue works well because it does allow you to slide the letters around once applied and before drying.... happy modding. BTW, the lettering on the top is "AFFENDE" as this was my first real case mod.

please, for the skake of my sanity....all of you must look at my site...pluse there ar a few more pics of my case on there.

i leave the moderating up to the moderators. lots of people that post a case mod here don't start their own thread about it, so where else are we supposed to ask them questions so everyone else can benefit from their experience? i agree that there have been some poorly placed posts, but a few posts about any given mod isn't some great transgression.

Hello everyone, Im new here. I have been here a couple of times before and I am amazed by the works done by many many people here and I must say they have done a very good job of it. Not only that this community as a whole has helps anyone who needs it and are quick about it. I hope my stay here be a good one. Im posting my computer pics which i recently made. The case I bought already had the lights and fans etc u see in the pics below. Im not a serious modder but I love have some mods here and there. Ill be moding my computer soon with more fans, UV lights and cables and even a lcd mod.

Edit: oh there is a lot of clutter in these pics ill be sending the new ones without the clutter later.

well people are posting pics and short descriptions, but others ask how they did a certain mod aor design.....and as the sayong goes: if one person has a question, everyone else has the same qustion. instead PMing the nethod to one person i just post it here so everyone can have the same info. Plus, the posts are inthe spirit of the rules i do believe.

yeah guys i realise that. Im not criticising the moderators for not moderating well or that this thread is total crap. Im just trying to figure out what everyone else thinks about it and maybe give a heads up to people not to post quite as much useless "wow thats cool" crap.

I think its ideal to let people post "wow that's cool" crap and then clean it all out periodically. I mean, its nice to exchange a few words about somebody's mods. But then later you just want to be able to go through the pics without all the bs.

i agree....people post pics in this thread so others can see their mods....and i have never posted a pic thinking "man, i hope no one tells me how cool it is".....i like posts saying that my mods are "cool", it boosts my confidence and lets me move on with an "i can do it" attitude.

Yeah, I dont think youre getting my point here. I like it when people give feedback, I just dont think the 3 worded responses which play no purpose. On the other hand when people say the specific parts which they like and which they dont, it can help you improve your case/mod. Whereas the "oh thats cool" crap doesnt really help anyone too much.

Capt Fiero
03-29-04, 03:23 PM
Its a Pre-Modded Case, and I am trying to find something that I want to change. The case already has everything I want in it. It is almost TOO nice to want to mod. Hell even the fan grills which is one thing I usually cut out first are big square holes that have pretty good airflow already. The case is all Aluminum even the frame inside is Aluminum. The wiring is a mess right now, so I did not most any real side pics.

not ot further this dilema but i think those three worded post play a huge role on the OC forum and specifically this Alt Mod forum....when i i get a small "cool case" post i love it and i try even harder on my next case...when no one says i hvae a "cool" case then i lose interest in modding for a while, and i love modding, those small general compliments play a huge role to me.

Yeah there it is, you see it until the middle of the bottom. I spray painted as you can see the whole body (without the front panel on. The black cable goes to that 5.25 inch speaker (good quaility sound great for lans), red switch is the cathode switch, im working on a panel mod so thats why they arent in. The before pic has a Thermaltake TR2-M4 i have it still but havent finished the painting of it. So thats why i have the stock AMD.

My rounded cables and bay speaker, from tiger direct.com Clear Cable (cd-rw and dvd's) and blue for HD (duh.)

The panels will be done tommorow.. sexy panels.

Ya know sometimes it is simplest things in this world that are the coolest to see. I personally like it. I have often thought of building a PC on a large peice of plywood and then hanging it on the wall like a picture. Always thought it would be neat to have it hanging on the wall and when someone asks what it is, I would turn it on and use it like a juke box or something.

I know i dont have no pic's now. I will as soon as i get some film for my Camer. Here's waht my Case (http://www.enermax.com.tw/cs-3051.htm) looked like new. mine is the black one

Today i took the case all aprt, and painted the frame of the case blue. then repainted the sides, top and back black. then took silver paint and lightly sprayed them. then took my dremal and cut a hole for a 80mm fan in the back side my my hard drives. i also took the face plates off my CD burner and CD rom and painted them black

ill update more info as i add pictures

:Edit: I was able to salvage one of the 40mm's , i finaling took my wire sleving i got from frozenCPU a few months ago. and i sleved my hard drive power wires , cd-rom wires and my intake fan on the bottom on my case. its really starting to look sweet. time to get some pics ASAP

I added two 80mm exhaust fans on the back pannel at the top, for a new total of 19 fans

Here's (http://f1.pg.briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/dead_man_walkin_hell/lst?.dir=/My+Computer&.view=l) some older pics there not that great but they will do for now . ill add news ones as i get them

Hi. I have been looking around the forums lately and decided to try a few things on my case.

I know these aren't the greatest or anything.. but it dropped the temps a lot and makes the computer look better.

I pretty much ruined my case trying to mod my power supply (I cut one of the suports out, not realising it was a supprt)

But the fans worked out ok..

Idle my processor was 111 and now its 93

Im soon adding a switch to turn the fans off, and a switch to turn the stobes lights on and off.

It's a hefty full tower, see sig for system specs. (I decided to keep my pelts even after a death in the family ;) ) It's chameleon painted purple-green-blue-red, front panel isn't painted (gonna change that soon) and the glory of it all is a mirror plated AMD logo with a 1"smoked plexiglass backround. I used to have a CC light up green behind it but I fried a converter, some improvements will be made.

Starting case: (antec?) Super pro case robbed from school (they were pitching this wonder!)

Besides the decal change, I still need to install an orange LED fan (HARD to find!)

wrap the green IDE cables+power cables from antec in orange tape (perhaps shorten them too, ight look better)

Well, here is what my computer is actually in ATM:
http://s89501235.onlinehome.us/LanCase1.jpg
http://s89501235.onlinehome.us/LanCaseBack.jpg
http://s89501235.onlinehome.us/LanCaseWhole.jpg
http://s89501235.onlinehome.us/LanCaseWholeLable.jpg

So... The fans in the back are 80mm (the delta is 5v'ed to make it quiet) and along with the one on the side (marked since it's behind the case side - there is a pretty decent sized gap so it can at least do a little) are all 'attached' to the CPU HS (SP-97) via a big cardboard shroud - all pulling away from the CPU. In the front there is a 120mm fan that I am either gonna unplug, take out, or space (from the holes on the front) because it's really loud right up against the holes. Right next to the 120mm fan is the PSU which I had to relocate to make room for the CPU fans/shroud.

The idea was a very small, Lan-able (before I had a big cheiftec with watercooling, up until I killed a bunch of stuff in a horrible mishap when I took it all out and put it on the desk - the one 2 posts up), completly free, as quite as my previous setup (watercooling) and no drop in preformance.

Now it's just as quite, much smaller, was completly free and my temps are ~10* higher (still tweaking voltage on OC so they will only go down or stay). And I also got a new (used) CPU from a friend (upgraded from a 1600+ Pally @ 1800mhz to 2100+ T-Bred B @ 2300mhz). All in all, successful.

EDIT: Oh, and the paint job was a quick 1 coat of white on the inside case, and black (with the faded red) on the outside. I was gonna do the mb try red but I was too lazy to paint it, take stuff off, and alet it dry. I was also gonna and still might do a Naruto (or other pictures) stencil on one or both of the sides and maybe the top. I just never got around to it and also decided it was a little too much of a 'geeky' thing to do - I still might do it though.

This is just something I picked up at a Liquidation Store on the weekend,

It's supposed to be a desk clock, it displays Time, Date, temperature of the ambient area around the clock, and temperature of the remote pod, (wherever you place it, on top of my case).

was really quite easy just cut a hole in the panel with a jigsaw, 4 screws later and SHABAM, was nice that the colors matched my case,

The clock is also on the US Wave system, and automatically sets itself, good deal for $20.00 Canadian.

I used front panel screws from an old case to mount it, I'd reccomend putting washers on them as mine poked through the front by accident.

Ok I done the usual wire managment thing. Cut the grills outta where the fans should get air. I took an idea of fancy, and cut a fan in the floor of the case. Cut the usual side fan in, and had to use a Antec tri LED for the pizazz :D. I had to paint the ROM's to match the front... just had to! This is a very cheap case so with the front looking so boring I had to cut that also. To fill in the void I created, I used some Red plastic canvas that is found in A&C stores to match the rest of the scheme. Since this is still running stock HS it is only mildly overclocked. But I like to keep the CPU overvolted. Later on the inside will get matching paint. Metallic colors ROCK!! The colors are Dark Night Metallic / Autumn Maple Metallic

My first attempt at modding my case.It is a metallic paint with large flakes. The wiring had to be redone completely so as to hide all the crud they come with.I still need a few more rounded cables for my second array.I removed the lower drive cage and made my own from flat aluminum pieces so they can be removed easily.I also need to add some metal flake to the sides of the optical drives. It took all weekend but well worth the effort. The first one is the before.

Specs:
-Athlon XP 2500+ (Barton) cooled by a Thermaltake TR2-M4.
-A7V7X-X mobo, supports 5.1 sound
-Nyko airflo mouse
-TLC or TRC 17inch monitor.
-Radeon 9100 @ 300 core/240 mem. (Getting a giant II heatpipe cooler this weekend in the mail then its gonna be higher).
-6 inch fan duct inductor (boost in airducts airflo by 250cfm.. I modded my case to hold it and 250cfm in from one fan no out fan, loud but works well..
-Temps during 3dmark: 123F (CPU) i forgot the Board.. it was like 80 something.

Anyways pics:
My nyko mouse.. i love it.. no sweaty hands at lans... and no sounds..

True secure keyboard.. need to finish paint job and spray clear coat.. but key chars can only be seen if you point a desklamp or flashlight onto the key..

http://tinypic.com/bcz8

The 6 inch fan thingy... its on.. but the flash went off..
http://tinypic.com/bcza

My power... vroom. (the brushed metal look, had pizza on it for 2 lans... needs to be redone and sprayed again..
http://tinypic.com/bczc

front to back: front, is the reset switch, the other 2, control fans in the system... small fans not the big one.. and the reset is the only momentary switch of the 3.

Why get a q3 decal or 2k4 one when you can have U of M... (got it on vacation.. its different..)

To be honest. I haven't noticed a bit of difference. I thought I would try it anyway since I had seen a few posts on it.
Too bad really, I spent a lot of time laying that thing out too. Oh well, at least it does keep the back of the motherboard cool.

I had them in 4 places:

1 behind the HDD and floppy cages
1 on the bottom of the case
1 on the left side
1 on the top behind that bar

But now I just have the one on the left and one on the top, and it's still looking great. I just didn't like having the purplish light all over the place and you can see from the pictures that it's too purple yanno?

So now I just have two in there...

Sorry about the bad night pics. The camera was doing something weird. Not bad though, especially for my first computer. I cut the window myself, sleeved the cables, cut holes the back plate, and then sorted all of the cables for about 3 hrs. It took a long time, but it was worth it. It looks 100% better. If you disagree and think it looks worse, you'd have had to seen it before.

Before, the bottom was covered in wires. I had that ugly duct up. The cables weren't sorted through the back, and the mainboard power cable would be hanging right in front of the window. ;) Trust me, it looks better.

I used some Double sided foam tape. The stuff that comes with the UV lights would work. That really sticky foam stuff that rips apart when you try to take it off.

I used a Vantec TMD fan for this, because otherwise no air would get out. This is an older picture, so ignore the yellow writing and SB hs. I got rid of that ugly thing a while back.

----As i just posted this, tinypic went down on me------

so the last pic is not on tinypic..

my new baby (Super Lan boy)

The story behind it:
I fubared my old raidmax trying to mount a Dreamcast in the top.. so i tried to make a case out of wood. (That didnt go well). So a couple weeks ago i said screw it and went to compusa and got me a new case. the super lan boy. Well, my old 350 PSU died when i had the wood case before it was finished. So i got from ENU (a place near me thats like a warehouse with comp parts), a generic 550W PSU. that was 24 bucks. 90 for the case. So yesterday i went and got me some cold cathodes, and also a fan bus. One of the CCFL's snapped when i picked up the side panel and the weight was held by the top CCFL..

So now the pics.. one blue CCFL and a minorly-modded SLB.

Yeah, I added a blowhole first thing when I got my case. I could move my hand from bottom to top and feel a temperature increase  Bought a 120mm Delta, a jigsaw, and my excellent modding skills. Soon had my slightly too big blowhole. So maybe the modding skills were still growing, everyone has to learn somewhere.

Blowholes do nothing - they're just a hole. You have to have a fan to push the air through them.

No a blowhole is not just a hole, hence the word "blow". I know I need a fan to push the air. Let me rephrase that question.

I have a 120mm and a 80mm intake fans and a 80mm and 20mm outtake. Would it be worth it to put a blowhole(with fan) in my case?

I would put a 80mm blowhole, it does a lot

Sir Golitech
12-19-04, 01:11 AM
Should the blowhole be in the center of the case or more to the back?

pwnt by pat
12-19-04, 10:57 AM
It was a joke, chill. Oh, do whales have fans on their blowhole?? If you do a blowhole, make it an 80 or 120 up top and set the rear 80 to intake OR leave the back as exhaust and put a 80/120 on the side. You always want to have more intake than exhaust and frankly, exhaust can be rather useless at times. In your case, with the psu right on top of the cpu fan, I don't think it would be worth it.

Sir Golitech
12-19-04, 05:37 PM
If more intake is better, would it be a good idea then to put an intake 80mm on the floor of the case?

Brundle Fly
12-19-04, 05:51 PM
...a blowhole is always a good thing, especially up top, because heat rises. Whether or not you need a fan in it is another story. I have to disagree with Sir Golitech here, a case with "0" pressure is best, it means as fast as fresh air moves in, it gets moved out. More intake than exhaust air, means that too much air stagnates in the case, heating up, before it gets pumped out, which is not a good thing. Vice-verse for negative air pressure, your system is starving for fresh/cool air...

...a blow hole, even without a fan, helps equalize pressure, thereby helping your system run cooler. If you pump in more than you can pump out, your exhaust fans are wasting power. If you pump out more than you can pump in, the same thing occurs. If you open a hole that allows pressure to equalize, you solve the prob...

...my never at all humble onion anyhow... :)

Been there done that, LOVED the results.

http://www.captfiero.com/bottomhole/bigimages/pict0098.jpg

Take a look at www.captfiero.com/bottomhole for more pics of the bottom feeder intake.

Temps dropped, case airflow was improved becuase it took the front intake and gave it a boost to go. Note, Dont leave this type of bottom feeder intake case sitting on carpet. I ended up going to Revy and getting a piece of 1x12 and placing it on that. The computer was acting like a vacuume cleaner sucking up everything that was on or near the carpet.

Enablingwolf
12-19-04, 08:41 PM
I also did a lower intake on the floor of my case. I got great results. The only drawback is dust, and replacing the filters if you use one. And if you use a led fan you get some ground effects.
On the topic of unequal pressures. If you have an unequal amount of air, I noticed the fans will give off a slight "throbbing" sound. You just have to experiment with your setup and see what gains you get from each setup. Cardboard is great way to template a setup before you cut. The only spot I can't figure out how to template is the floor, since most cases don't have removable panels there.
