This project started with a free server case
http://www.ljsnet.co.uk/Dscf0693.jpg

I made a acrylic res.

http://www.ljsnet.co.uk/res1.jpg http://www.ljsnet.co.uk/res2.jpg

Next was the cooling system in the lower part of the case.

http://www.ljsnet.co.uk/rads3.jpg http://www.ljsnet.co.uk/rads4.jpghttp://www.ljsnet.co.uk/install2.jpg

This consists of 2 x thermochill 120.2 rads , mcp650 pump , storm g4 ,DD maze4 gpu and DD zchipset.

I did some work on the look of the case and also made air flow better for the rads.

http://www.ljsnet.co.uk/newcase2.jpg http://www.ljsnet.co.uk/newcase3.jpg

I still have the other door to cut and paint but this is what is will look like when finished. I can run the fans on the rads as low as then will go for silent running but the mcp650 make more noise.

ghettocomp, nice box to start with, but why don't you start a Log thread, and post finals here in the Gallery. Good luck with your mod btw!

I bought the cheapest case that would match my kitchen (cuz thats where the computer is) and I got the a case that is almost see through the steel is so thin. But when you don't have alot of spare case thats what you get...then you mod it anyway.

I moded the PS for one fan in line for quietness. I modded the graphics card for passive cooling using a celeron heatsink. I added red LEDs to my fans. I forced a 92mm fan into the 80mm case fan location. I cut out the silver plastic section and added a wood insert to hold my floppy/media reader and new 120mm fan.

Next I'll add a passive chipset cooler to the Mobo and then see where to go from there.

nice mod dude!

Thanks! I had some time with the system apart as my Mobo had to go back to Soyo for warranty repair. They took 12 business days which gave me just enough time to do the face plate mod.

lol i think he was talking about the wires from a "looks" point of view not as much as temps :)

there is nothing more awesome looking than an extremely clean looking case where you can barely see any wires at all

Agreed, I dislike seeing wires, even when they are sleeved, so the few I have left annoy me. I need some that are slightly longer, because the current ones are too short to plug in when routed behind the mobo tray. Maybe I will bring out my 1337 soldering skills one of these days and just extend them myself  . I actually havn't taken the time to do sleeving, but there are a couple cables that have me tempted.

Hello from us crazys over at [H]ard|ocp!

I built my mom a new Sempron rig with a nice ANTEC Piano Black Slimline case. She gave me her old Dell Dimension 4100. It sat in my apartment for a while. Then I thought that I could do some minor mods to it and Give it to my little sister for her College work.

Thanks! The keyboard and mouse are a new addition. I was kinda hoping that the keyboard would be little brighter but it works. Sorry about the pic size. Got a new camera and the default size is big.

EDIT: Compressed the pics a little. Hope they're a little more acceptable size.

This is just a side project ... I cut out a radiation symbol out of the top of the old case and covered it with aluminum and red acrylic.
This system is self contained too ... the old one had the res/rad/pump in the basement.

Just an update
Here is my server. It is about 3ft tall. Has just a single AMD 1800+ CPU and is on a 7mb Cable connection. This was on a late night geek session. Was strung out on Monster and Mt Dew and Non Drowsy Cold medicine building a few rigs, reading code and trying to understand hex editors, and someone asked for pics of my Modded Server Tower. The lights can and do get turned off at night.

Here is my Personal Machine its a 668 Scorpion by Raidmax, all aluminum Full Tower. The white tube is a cold air intake pulling air from outiside the house to keep everything cool. It runs at 3.5ghz with a gig of DDR Ram at 500mhz and an ATI Radion 9800 Video card. Front panel has the 2 DVD Burners, the 7ch Fan Controller and the Voltage control for the 550Watt Antec True Control PSU.

Love the server. If I havent missed my guess, thats an InWin Q500 server tower. My friend used to have one and I drooled all over it, since I only had a lowly mid-tower. :) Because back then the bigger the better was in effect. That was the tower you ran your P3-700 overclocked to a gig in if you were 1337. lol

Nope I had an Inwin Q500 Clone that I got rid of in place of this one. The Q500's were nice cases, but not nearly as hefty as this thing. Let me do some digging around. I have a build thread on this forum someplace. When I got it, it was a plain tan, server tower, even had a little bit of rust on the backside of it.

Ah it got taken apart and most of the hardware was used for a short time in the new server. Then even that stuff was tossed in favor of newer parts.

I am still in progress, this will never get done actually. I am always cutting or moving things around. I have cuts all over to accommodate wires and fans. Originally it was setup for 80MM fans.
I cut out the front for better airflow. The mesh is something I decided to install so the hole was not as obtuse. I also redid the hard drive mounts. The tray is cut to allow wires to pass through. The case is lined with matting to control sounds and most the motor driven devices are mounted to 'float' on a cushion. The bottom is also covered with matting. It has a contact foil on it to blend in more and make it easier to manage dust. I could not imagine cleaning a thousand holes out.

For the time being. Here is where I am at on my case. Nothing spectacular, but I like a subdued case.

Welcome to the forums Anubis!

Your rig looks pretty sweet

A really easy case mod is to remove your fan grills. There restrictive, causing less airflow, and they make the fans more noisy. The best way to go about cutting them out is with a cut off wheel or a dremel.

Also, look into some cable sleeving. It really tidys things up inside the case, and looks killer :)

OK I got a new PC so I decided to mod my old Gatewau 700XL. I didn't add much inside other than a 500watt PSU (because of the lights and fans I added and some cable sleeving). What I did was chose a theme and dremmeled away!

Pic #1: What I started with. This is the closest pic I could find on the web. I wasn't smart enough to snap pics before I started, or during the wholr process at all. :(
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/upload/userfiles/jimmsch/00%20original.jpg

Pic 2: The underbelly fans. I added the wheels in order to fit these fans underneath. The purpose of this was to make a glow on the floor which you will see in pics to come. The filters are inside on the case floor.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/upload/userfiles/jimmsch/01%20fans.JPG

Pic 3: The rear I/O panel. Not sure why I included this pic, but here it is. Windows key and Gateway serial whited out.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/upload/userfiles/jimmsch/02%20back.JPG

Pic 4: The right side. The glare from the light doesn't do it much good. I am not a very good photographer. I used Rust-Oleum spray and same brand clear finish to make a nice glossy finish.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/upload/userfiles/jimmsch/04%20right%20side.JPG

Pic 5: The inside. I tried my best to arrange the cables neatly. I did the sleeving myself with UV Orange sleeve kit and UV Blue molex ends. I also bought same UV Blue IDE cables. You can see the floor fan filters there. I painted them white so they don't stand out too much. I also painted the edges of the RDRAM modules with UV Blue and UV Orange to make them glow a bit. I have one 4" UV light affixed to the bottom of the PSU and 1 12" UV running along the bottom in the front. I also have a LED 3 bulb cannon affixed under the HDD rack. The rear fan is silent UV Orange.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/upload/userfiles/jimmsch/03%20inside.JPG

Pic 6:Top front. My wife juyst HAD to paint the Gateway logo! The four toggles control lights and fans. Is anybody from NY? Can you figure out my theme yet? Maybe the next pic will help you out!

Part two.

I wasn't permitted to post all my pics in one message. So here is the rest:)

Pic 7: The front. Lets Go Mets!! It took me quite a while to carve out the skyline on this, but it took my wife a little longer to do all that detailed painting. There is a thin plexi behind the skyline that I painted blue and there is another 3 bulb LED cannon to light it up.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/upload/userfiles/jimmsch/06%20frontal.JPG

Pic 8: Left side. The window is AC Ryan UV Blue plexi. I carved the "NY" from the circular piece of steel I cut from the case. Again my wife made it all look good with the painting!
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/upload/userfiles/jimmsch/07%20left%20side.JPG

Pic 9: The front with lights on. I think it came out pretty cool. You can see here the glow on the floor created by the underbelly fans.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/upload/userfiles/jimmsch/08%20front%20with%20light.JPG

Pic 10: Pretty much the same pic but without the bright light from the camera.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/upload/userfiles/jimmsch/09%20front%20D%20with%20light.JPG

Pic 11: The left side with just the LED cannon lit up. The underbelly fans are also lit in this pic so you can see the oranhe and blue glow on the floor better.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/upload/userfiles/jimmsch/10%20left%20side%20LED.JPG

Pic 12: The left side with just the UV lights on. Again you see the glow from the under fans.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/upload/userfiles/jimmsch/left%20UV%20full.JPG

Pic 13: A close up of the left side with only the UV lights on.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/upload/userfiles/jimmsch/11%20left%20side%20UV%20close.JPG

Well that is all the pics I took. I will give this to my niece for Christmas because she is 14 and a huge David Wright fan. I alos ordered some decals from mets.com so I will stick them on when they arrive.

Let me know what you think of my first ever case mod. Yankee fans need not reply, I think I already know what you think ;) LOL

Here's my latest mod. It's not much but I was going for quiet. With a 120mm in front and back, it cools pretty well. The x850xt has helped since it blows air out the back.

My Red CCFL doesn't quite work right now. It's something to do with my wiring... I can't solder with stranded wire so I had to use solid core. It isn't very flexible.

Here is what I started with:

Side: I cut this window out with a jigsaw. Came out pretty good but I had one or two spots that need me to do some painting.

If you don't regularly run it with the case lid on, you really should, otherwise it disturbs most of the cooling system. In this case, it looks like the harddrives wont' be cooled.

I took the lid off to show a picture. That was the day I got it. Now i have 6 74gb hd in it.

Its not that loud once you installed the compaq driver paq, it has a fan controller that idles it down about 50%. I really like it, its very zippy and is extremly reliable.

I'm new here, and new to liquid cooling, but I figured I would add my latest mod project. This was my first water cooled computer, and also my first serious case mod. Not finished in this pic due to no vid card, and a need to wire clean up. I'm posting from it now though so it's up and running nice and cool with some minor OCs.

Godfather1138,

I want to welcome you to the ocfurms.

I am sorry to admit. I noticed the plaque behind that sweet case before all the goodies inside. Though that is a VERY sweet looking setup. Very well done and laid out.

May I ask if you have any logs of the build to post up how it was crafted. I would be very interested what it entailed to get all that love together. If not, could you post up some specs what you have going on? In other words, what is going on in the bottom part. It looks like a sliding panel there.

Thanks, i bought the led's with a built in resistor, the rocker switches and some wire. I interuptered the 12v molex wires (yellow) on what i wanted to turn on/off and run it through the switch and wired the positive wire on the led to the "to source" post on the switch and then grounded it to the case. And obviously drilled some holes

You got two posts on the switch, one is something like source in, and out to source. You take the wire you spliced coming from the molex and solder it to the source in, and then take another piece of wire and solder it to "source out (the wire that would go directly to ex: a fan)" and splice it back into the yellow wire making a loop.

When i was doing it, i should have made a pictorial, alot of people ask how i done it lol!

This is a very basic mod I did for a friend of mine that is a huge Razorback fan. I am not done with the case yet, but he can't decide what shape he wants the window in and if he wants any more paint work done. I got tired of waiting and threw the thing together tonight. Just figured I would share b/c I am really pleased with how the cabling turned out.

This was my first mod, i used an old case that was in my tech teacher's supply closet and went from there. I sketched out the flame designs on card board then used as a stencil to cut the fames masking, used spraypaint since i was low on $.

Doin a case mod on my advance 2610 case. It was all black at first when i bought it, but i noticed after a few weeks that the paint was crappy and it got scratches of barely touching it, so i'm going for chrome!

I have also moved the HDD's to the backside/underside (it's standing sideways on the photos when it should be laying down).
I've only used 100->120 and 600paper for the finish, but i'm gonna go and get some 1000 and 1600 paper later on, then it will hopefully be a mirrorfinish all around, ofcourse the frontpanel too.
Also cut out the holes for the 120mm fans on both "sides" and going to do the same to those above the I/O-plate.
And, the PSU-cooling is something i gotta work on, it's blowing towards the front, so i'm gonna end up with a hole in the front for it to blow out all the hot air. Using a cone-shaped thingy that's usualy placed on boomboxes.
More idéas are welcome, if you have any! :)

Got alot of work left thou, so here is some photos of how it looks now! And these are up to date.

PS. sorry for my bad english. And this is my sencond mod since about 7years ago. So i'm a little rusty :)

Hehe thanks, still alot of work to do thou, as i'm not even finished.
It's a HTPC-chassis really and it's the smallest case(17.9"x5.5"x14.5") that I could get my hands on that fits the standard ATX-boards.

I wonder how it will look like when i get my schyte infinity as it is 6.3" high and the case is only 5.5" :) As you can see the gpu-cooling is sticking out and so will the CPU-cooler do too :) i got 4x120mm and 2x80mm fans fitted in that little thing.

Oh well, with time it'll look even more different and sticking out among all other mods!

A guy in my Battlefield clan builds these. His aim is an elegant PC with watercooling and great performance. It isn't about the highest performance you can squeeze out of a machine or about the best cooling you can get, more of trying to strike a balance with the emphasis on aesthetics and an elegant simplicity. thats the sickest machine but do many people buy them?

They are expensive. He is basically doing sort of a "boutique" computer experience with his goal being to sell one of them every week. You could buy an Alienware for cheaper than these to give you an idea, but as stated, he isn't really running it like a business to maximize profits and move lots of products. Just selling a beautiful PC with great (not ultimate) performance to those that might be interested. I guess it makes some sense though...while you could get an alienware for cheaper or an alienware that performs better, all alienware boxes are ugly, gaudy things with strange plastic fins and such. So if you are someone that doesn't build your own boxes, you would need to decide if aesthetics were more important to you or not.

I don't think that 52 of these a year is out of the question though, even at the high price. We live in a world where people will pay money for tumbleweeds on the internet, so this is not a crazy venture on his part :P

for the price of this. it is the attention to detail that put this out past the rest. i mean dam that is some rig. wish i could do 1/2 of what he has done to it. that would be call a Master Piece of a Computer hands down.

Just finished building this with my Ex... actually, she built it I supervised. Only real mod is the custom side window with etching to match the case design. Window edge is counter sunk to allow the window to sit flush when mounted from behind. The etching is also on the inside so you can't see it at all when the case light is off. We need to add more light at the top of the case for this to really pop, but here it is.

The flowers on the case were applied at the factory, but the ones on the plexi were laser etched. Shoot me a PM and let me know what you are wanting to do in paint. I may have some good tips for you from my automotive painting days.

Thanks for the kudos, it is my first and probably last shot at something like this. Very time consuming with the tools I have. Lots of filing and sanding to smooth the edges on the cuts as the checker plate is 5/16" thick, :bang head it is tough to cut as well. The thinner checkerplate for the drive cages was not as bad but all those slots were a real pain.

Thanks Burningcpu, much appreciated! Was not aware how time consuming it was going to be when I started it or I doubt it would even exist. :-/ Waiting for a 9800 GX2 so I can catch up on a few games and look at some wire management. I have been told it is begging for water cooling and I purposely made room for a 360 rad inside at the bottom but I doubt I will ever go that far.

As far as heavy the piece I cut from the side panel for the window weighs 8 pounds on it's own.

I believe that Acid is referring to the routing. You need to make short runs from one component to the next. Order does not matter too much. Just make sure your res/T-line is before your pump inlet and the rest is gravy.

I am not sure how much you can change. Maybe moving the pump lower so it will prime easier.

It is aluminum and it does weigh that much. It is about 5/16" thick at the checkers. I am able to drill it and tap it for screws without going all the way through. That is how I attached fans and filters as well as the plexi to it from the backside without anything showing on the outside. For aluminum it is very dense. The weight of it caught me off guard as well.

Here is my case that my mate has helped fix for my as it was an old computer tower that was damaged badly after a botched attempt by john at modding the case for me. So john has been killed and sacrificed to appease the computer gods and Chris was called in to help save the case or it was going to be scraped, at the time I was studying hard for exams so now the case is finished and there is now only one year left to go at university. :attn:

These pictures were taken in my living room I had to lighten them a bit in photo shop however the rest is as you see it. The camera has a little bit of noise however its 8 years old now and its dying slowly :( so gutted. Once I get the case 100% completed then I will make an update post with all of the parts inside it and lit up as my brother gave me two neon lights for the case a while back :)

I know it's an old case and many hated the looks, but so what.*

Here's my Antec P-160 case on it's 5th system and first mod. I added a Xigmatek 170 mm "Blue" fan to the side panel using a Dremel circle cutter. It's mounted to blow on my dual EVGA GTX 260's as well as the ram and northbridge area. I used a 140 mm grill and door edge molding from Autozone to trim the hole. I used screen material glued to the 140 mm grill to make the filter. The top has a Xigmatek 140 mm "Blue" fan added the same way. In the front I removed the metal mesh, plugged all of the perimeter vent holes and the bottom slot. I put in a Rosewill 120 mm blue led fan. I used the guts of the rear slot mounted fan controller and mounted them to my blank 3.5" bay cover. I have an Asus 60 mm northbridge cooler mounted to my ram and a Corsair H70 with the dual 120 mm's mounted to exhaust air. This setup keeps my temps pretty low running my 1090T @ 3.8 Ghz, 4.2 Ghz Turbo even with the 2 GTX 260's.

Will add more pics in a day or two.
Edit: Added the pics.

By the way, I'm trying to find a cool looking 120mm fan grill for my front fan. Does anybody know of any good designs that aren't too restrictive of air flow? Thanks.
