I was wondering if this CPU is a good one or not it is a
AMD 1700 Thoroughbred
on chip it says
AMD 1700 DLT3C
AIVGA 024IMPMW
9469308250556
A friend was going to trash it I told him I would take it off his hands so now I have this system and it is my first AMD system

Usually the 1700+ is one nice amd processor, it remains to be seen If your whole stepping qualifies for an EXCELENT overclocker, but overall those all overclock pretty well.

Lol, its a decent cpu to say the least. A bad one will hit ~2ghz, or roughly a 2400+, and a good one will do 2.6ghz, something that isnt even on the scale, but probably about a 3600+(rough guestimate).

he just gave it to you , that is sweet. those 1700's are good clocker's.

only systems i got where 486dx's 33mhz, pentium 166mhz , AMD K5's 166pr. im probly gonig to have a 600mhz slot a here in a few weeks after i rbuild a computer for a guy i know. said i can have the old un used parts. i need some friend like yours lol

Yes he did gave me the whole system this is what i got ------

From the stepping and date, most likely it is a Tbred A, which max out around 1.8 - 1.9 GHz.

Yes, I was just going to post, AIVG>>A<< is a T-Bred A for sure and they overclock 300 MHz less on average than B's.

Also the date plays no role as there are A's made in late 2003 (!) out there so it's all about the codes, they have to end with B, not A.

Date plays a role in the argument.

There is A made in 2003, but there is NO B made in week 41 of 2002 (0241).

BOTH the code AIVGA and data 0241 confirm the likehood that it is a Tbred A.

Further, things and codes are not printed in stone, if I saw a stepping XXXXA in 2004 latest week, I could not for sure say it is a Tbred A.

In the context of 1700+, most Tbred B max around 2.3 - 2.5 GHz which averaged 500 MHz better than a 1700+ Tbred A which max around 1.8 - 2.0 GHz.

It is true that some Tbred B (such as 2100+) max around 2.2 - 2.4 GHz which averaged 400 MHz higher than a Tbred A.

hitechjb1, you're right about 1700+ B's first being made officially in the last month of 2002.

Even though it did not apply to his chip, "The dates play no role" was of course meant for the big issue at the AMD section when hundreds of posts started appearing of DLT3C's doing so poorly because people didn't realize AMD made a new batch of DLT3C A's available after which it made sense to post DLT3C B (not A) instead of DLT3C when mentioning them in late 2003.

By the way, first B's were (officially) week 30-something 2002, there are still early 2200+ B's and 2400+ B's floating around.

I'm going to have to take issue with

Yeah there are no A's being made in 2004 but experienced members posted that AMD stopped making T-Breds altogether (when they didn't) and that AMD only made T-Bred B's (when they didn't). So I'm going to have to put my $ on this being set in stone:

Example code: AXDA2100DUT3C AIUHB 0248MPMW
0248 stands for 2002 week 48

All T-Bred A's have a stepping code which ends in "A": xxxxA are T-Bred A's
All T-Bred B's have a stepping code which ends in "B": xxxxB are T-Bred B's

The CODES sticky:

yep thats a nice rig with a voodoo3 i would take out the Voodoo3 and keep it for memory off 3DFX :D

it will be worth quite alot of money in like 20 years time or so

Though it is an A core, they still oc ok. They just need a lil more voltage than B cores. Like everyone else said, you cant beat the price. Good job man, overclock and let us all know how it does!

I may sell system as i do have two systems now just do not know what to ask for
