View Full Version : GeForce MX 400 or Voodoo 5500?
I'm looking for a new video card. I mainly play games and was looking at the GeForce MX 400 64 MB from Inno3d, and the Voodoo 5500. I can get one of those GeForce's for around 70 while the VooDoo 5500 is around 110. Which would be a better card and is there something else I should be looking at. The GeForce 3 is still too expensive. The GeForce 2 Ultra is too expensive and so is the Pro. I would like a card with 64 MB.
Thanks in advance

looking at the reviews, i would probly go with the geforce 2 mx, for not much more however you could get the radeon LE(68$), and then make some registry changes and overclock, so it performs like a 134$radeon(they have this procedure at anandtech.com.....also the kyro II is pretty good in this price range...but you can get a gts for 130, same with a pro

I am really sorry, but I STRONGLY STRONGLY reccomend the Voodoo5 5500. Many people in this forum that have the 5500 recommend it to even over the GTS. Please, Voodoo5 owners, back me up here :)

i personally haven't used any voodoo card yet, i would recommend it over atleast a MX card, i mean come on, when voodoo 5 first came out, it was a great compatiter to the GTS, it did beat the GTS's ass, except it was just too expansive.
i am now using a GEFORCE 3 so i dun think i would prefer it, but u want a upgrad whether a MX or VOODOO 5, it would be smart choice with a VOODOO.
anyway, does anyone here know how to use the nfinite engine of Geforce 3, i got a gigabyte one for little less than$350. any help would be appricate.

GET THE VOODOO 5500 FOR 110!
I have a voodoo 3 3000 overclocked to 199mhz from 166 which is alittle faster than the 3500. Anyway i have owned my voodoo card for about 2 years now and i wouldnt give it up just yet. The geforce 2 mx or radeon is way to slow for gaming unless you are running 1333mhz or faster. I have seen the Geforce 2 pro in action and when overclocked it is a good card for $150 by gainward. The geforce 2 has better colors and so does the voodoo 5500 but the voodoo 5500 has no more driver support so for 40 bucks more you cant go wrong with the geforce 2 pro. I mean for 200 you can get the ultra which will be better than the voodoo 5500. If you are poor and cant aford the 40bucks extra for a geforce 2 pro card than buy the vooodoo 5500 you will not be dissapointed! Also if you play 3dgames such as Unreal T, Quake 3 type games the geforce 2mx or radeon le wont get anywhere as close to the voodoo5500. Id like to think the voodoo 5500 is almost comparable to the geforce 2 pro but the voodoo has no more driver support. But what does it matter anyway by the time DOOM3 or Unreal 2 comes out the geforce3 mx will be out and then just buy the geforce 3 mx version which will totally blow away all the cards out today
Oh yeah by the way ive bought the kyro 2 4500 and brought it back to comp USA because IT SUCKS. I have a -t-bird 1000mhz cpu and unless you are running 1400mhz plus the card is no good since it is so cpu dependent. I would rather keep my voodoo 3000 overclocked than to buy that piece of crap. Also the voodoo 5500 will blow the kyro 2 out of the water . If 3dfx was still around today nivdia geforce 3 would be around 200 bucks
HAVE A NICE DAY
Keep in mind that the V5 graphics in 2D and 3D blow the MX out of the water. It's not as fast I admit but I owed a V5 for a few years and eventually killed it being the good overclocker type I am. So in a pinch I ran out and got a GF2MX400<OMG was it ugly rendering! So if your a graphics nut and dont play alot of Framerate is life First Person Shooters the V5 is far better than the MX.
In three days after purchase I got sick of trying drivers and returned it based on uglyness,the rest was fine. I replaced it with a KyroII and though the K2 was far better than the MX in render quality it still wasnt a V5.
This might look like an MX bash but it's not meant to be. I just want to try to bring across the fact that to get speed GF cheats on detail rendering or just doesnt do it that well. Ide love to know what would happen with a LOD Bias adjustment on all cards. Maybe than we could get them to all "look" the same before we start running benches.

I myself will buy the geforce 2 pro soon for 150 /w shipping by gainward which has 4.5ns ram. I think this will be the best upgrade for my mone. Although if the voodoo 5500 was going for 80 bucks with shipping i would definity buy one Today!
Yo, how does the VooDoo 4 4500 compare withe the GeForce2 mx 400?

Here is a sweet deal. Instead of the outdated Voodoo or the MX 400 for $100, check out this GeForce2 Ultra for $104+shipping;
