UPDATE: DON'T CHANGE THE SERVERIP FILE; YOU WILL LOSE CREDIT FOR THE UNIT!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I just used the good old trick with changing the first letter in the serverip file, but on this update the unit it uploaded was not credited at all... And yes, I did return it within the time limit.
Have any of you actually checked to make sure that you recieve credit for a unit, when you have changed this letter?
To those who do not no this, changing the serverip file will allow you to connect to another stanford server, if the current one is down.
Perhaps its just a stats error, or perhaps we do not recieve credit for units, when we change the letter in the serverip file... and if so, it would be good to know, so we could STOP suggesting it.
All input is appreciated.
Thanks!

I am. That is the way I have to do this celeron I can't run two at a time but the one that needs to go out is new. Seeing as how both of them are on the E server I am worried that the one that is 2 days old(kept running the wrong client) might not get into the server till its day 3. I just don't want to lose units.

I think that most of the servers going down is from that stupid virus going around. I just got an email from cox today apologizing for problems with service, because of the virus. :(
I am glad Ihave three clients running on most of my rigs.
There was a change in the time alloted to complete the work on a protein to 4 days in order to accommodate some of the people with slower PC's and Macs that were working on the project. I think the Stanford FAQ is out of date, but if you turn in the protein in 3 days you should receive credit for the work.

Cool. I would like to run multi clients on my celeron but, I can't because its to slow that way I can get more work units out this way.

Make a short cut to the F@H exe like this.
I just did this myself because I have 2 that will be done in about an hour and both are going to server 99 which appears to be down. :( The new client is sending me to server 99 for new work now. argh.
Anyway. to set up multiple clients you copy the fah.exe, charmm.prm, and opls.prm to a separate folder and then setup the shortcut. add the "-local" to the shortcut as it appears in the example above and then use the shortcut to run the second client
You will have to reenter your information when the new client starts.

For Celerons I would say not to do dual clients. They seem to work faster doing singles. For AMDs and P///s I would say run dual clients. For High Mhz CPUs AMD Tbirds and **Puke** P4 I would say run three at a time.
Its all up to you but if it gets to slugish drop it down one. It seems that the WUs keep getting more demanding on the CPUs. This may just be a trend or it may be something that is going to keep happening. No one but stanford knows for sure.
Keep em comeing team were doing a great job. Lets not slack off now.
Go OC.com!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This came up b4. You only get the same amoutn od WU done. (only can do so many per cpu cycle) I do get it that you can work on more than one at a time and thus if the server is down there will be time to finish b4 submitting the WU. Need a pretty fast machine to make it worth while...

Like I said you atleats need a high end P/// or an AMD to run dual clients.

Ok, Im having the same problem both with 101 and 99 right now, so I did what you said and added another client to the machine with a -local switch(with a space correct?) but it seems that it cant even get an id from 87...

Well rob I don't know what to tell you man maybe stanford is dead?
Maybe their was some huge lab explosion and the whole school is no longer there because someone addes C2N3CHL4 to a Mix of h2o2. I don't know what that is. I just wanted to joke around
arggggg i am ****ed both clients cant get work
I'm having the same problem. Just checked the server info and it shows 129 connections unprocessed for server 99 which means that they are probably having a problem there. I did manage to get a work unit and get a new one on one client. The others are still trying.
Update: Just got through a few minutes later and grabbed 2 more wu's.

Change the server in the serverip.dat file. I changed the server, saved changes, then closed the consloe and re-start it and was able to connect.

Don't change the server! We found out that you don't get credit for the wu if it is returned to a server other than what you got it from.
