View Full Version : Increased CpF values??

I just noticed today that my machine was having an average of over 25CpF! I thoght it might have something to do with the 0.001 AR work unit I was doing, so I didn't think much of it. I have just checked my current WU, and it says I'm averaging 24.29CpF (0.420 AR) !! What could have happened?? Nothing I can think of should have increased the CpF values. I disabled some start up programs in MSCONFIG, but that shouldn't increase the CpF values.... I normaly NEVER have a WU with an average at ANY point EVER exceding 12CpF!

Any thing you can think of that would suddenly increase the CpF values from normal one day to these really high readings the next?? HELP ME!!!!!!!! :(

yep...

my first guess would be memory allocation/reallocation... time for a nice cold reboot...

Let me know what you find out...

Good Luck!!

Just did a cold boot... Turned the sucker off for 30 sec. just to be sure. CpF values still in the 30s. A 72 hour WU dosen't sound very good compared to my 18 hour average. Any other ideas anyone about how these CpF values could have suddenly gone up (or how to get them back down :) )??

That happened to me when I flashed my VP6 BIOS to a new beta version. I forgot to reset to defaults before booting back up and it was going to take 47 hours to complete the current WU when it averages under 7. I just reset my BIOS, rebooted then changed my settings back and it was back to where it should be. I had to delete that WU too...

Don't know what could be causing that though. I'd ditch that WU and try another to see if it is WU specific.

YEA!!!!! As of only 1.05% into the WU, my CpF values are back down to normal!! 10CpF (browser loading...). Will wait a little longer though just to make sure my average stays where it should through the whole WU.

It's Normal!! (so far...)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! It went back up!!

Here's the scoop. I delete the WU, and get the new one processing. Everything's fine. I check back around 2% or so, and its still chuging around my normal 7CpF. Then I get some new software (SiSoft Sandra). I install the program and look in awe at all the cool information it gives. After doing all the benchmarks and confirming how slow this system is, I open up SETISpy again and the CpF values are back up to the 30+ mark!! I decide to use the cold reboot thinking that with all the benchmarking Sandra did, it might have eaten the memory. I reboot, and its stayed around the 30CpF mark ever since.

Truly Lost...

That happened to me about two months ago. My work PC was happily crunching WU at 12-13 h (a PII@450), THen one day it decide to increase the WU time to 24-72 h!!!!!

I tried everything with no results. Just a month ago as work load decreased a little, I decide that a clean WIndows instalation was necessary. AFter fdisk-format-reinstall everything went back to normal. Before you do this try:

a)Drefrag your HD.
b)Check your power saving features.
c)Check your Virtual MEmory settings.

If all this is as it should, the best way to correct everything will be to backup-fdisk-format-reinstall.

That's what I was afraid of.... I'll defrag the HD as soon as I'm done reading the board. Haven't really had a chance to for a LONG time with all the computer use!

Hope this all works out!

Got off the forums and defraged the hard drive. After about 2 hours, it finally finished. I opened SETI, and the CpF values are STILL up there, in fact...they are higher than before! Now around 40CpF!! I haven't restarted the comp after the defrag, but with all the restarts I've been doing, I don't think it would help.

Hopefully when this WU finishes, everything will be better. When I deleted the WU last time, everything was fine. Only 36.03 hours left to finish!!! If this dosen't work, I'm uninstalling SETI, deleting SETISpy and SETIMonitor, and then try reinstalling everything again.

I'm not saying any happy words out of my mouth so as not to jynx it. It's running back at the normal 7CpF, and I'm not going to run anything memory intensive durring this WU. Actually, it went back down at the VERY end of the last WU. There were two instances of SETI open (windows does that sometimes) and I closed one, but ended up closing both. I went into SETISpy and before clicking the restart button, I noticed that SETISpy had finally detected my seti client correctly (it allways thinks its CLI, but its graphical). I decided to turn off the hide seti option, and go into the preferences and turn off the hide seti on restart option. When I restarted and cheched the CpF values, they were back at normal.

It's not the hiding seti that caused the slowdown, because I've had that box checked for some reason for the past few months now. Finishing a WU in under a day would be a lovely change from the past few days (estimation of total time: 16:01:42 @ 11.5%).
