Im going to be switching to Water cooling soon and im going to be running a Swiftech MCP600 Pump and this runs off the PSU 12v rail. I was wondering if my Antec 480W will hold, since im running a P4 system and P4's draw heavily off the 12v rail.

Im running:

Antec 480W TruePower Euro Edition
Intel Pentium 4 2.4C OCed
Sapphire Radeon 9800pro (no vmods) occasionally OCed for benchies
Asus P4C800E-Deluxe (no vmods)
Corsair 1GB TwinX XMS4400
2x 36.6GB Western Digital WD360GD "Raptor"
Seagate Barracuda (V or IV forget now) IDE 120GB
Samsung 52x Combo Drive
Sony 32x CD/RW
Creative Audigy 2

Cooling Apparatus:
2x 80mm Stock Thermaltake Xaser III fans
2x 80mm Delta fans
2x 80mm 3500rpm Fonsa fans
1x 80mm Superred 3250rpm fan

To be removed once Water's in:
Zalman VGA heatpipe cooler thin fan
Delta 92mm 3250rpm fan on SP-94

What im wondering is, how many Watts does it draw off the 12v line and if nobody knows, how do you measure the 12v rail with a multi-meter? The site tells me that the pump runs off 9W, will it work?

Watts = volts x amps so 9w = 12 x .75

Unless your PSU is already at it's limits (which it shouldn't be) then it should be perfectly fine.

I know that equation, but it dosnt mean anything to me. Im not sure about the power consumption of everything else. I just remember that there was a Java program online that helps you add up all the stuff in your system, but i lost the link somewhere.

Is this (http://www.challenge-my.com/goopsulator/) it?

That's a variation on it, thanks man.

That tells me i run just under (less than half a W) 400W, with roughly 20A on the 12v rail. ****, my psu is limited to 22A on the 12V and im not sure if it accounts for OCing too...

sheesh...according to that I am 80w over my 550w(600w Peak) PSU.....No wonder I have a "few" issues. That and it wont let me go higher than 5 drives(I have 9), and the GCard requires a 12v molex also. So I am hitting my peak power on a regular basis....

There's also the Takaman (http://takaman.jp/psu_calc.html?english/) one shown to me by schismspeak, but I find that a headache to use. If you want accuracy, you might have to bring out the paper and pencil and add everything up yourself.

My CPU OC'd also, so I'm not sure how to calculate how much power it's using. I'm not sure if this is correct, but I used this equation from Firing Squad (http://www.firingsquad.com/guides/power_supply/page2.asp) to estimate it:

P = 1.25/12 * Vcore * Icc

I have a P4 3.2@3.68, so let's assume that instead of the normal 67.4A it draws like...85A? I completely pulled this out of my...ahem...closet, but a P4 @ 3.68 decidedly draws much more current than one at 3.2, right? This could be completely off, but I'm using 85A just to prove a point. So anyways, solving for power gives me P = 13.72. Not sure if you wanted to hear all that, sorry!

Anyways, I'm in the same dilemma as you are. I wish PSUs put more into the +12V rails. I might have to get a 520W just to satisfy my +12V rail needs, and I think that's kind of ridiculous!
