I am just starting to overclock my 1.4 athlon. I can adjust the cpu freq from my BIOS, but can not unlock the multiplier. The L1 line on the chip all have the legs connected from the factory and they can not be jumped w/ a pencil. What do I need to do to unlock it?
Also, I know that ASUS probe has poor reviews by users here. So i checked out mbm509 and got the same results. temp @ close to 56/57 NOT overclocked. is this normal?

Could be normal, whats your heatsink and fan? Was the copper plate smooth or coarse? Did you use thermal paste? More specificly did you use artic silver II? wouldnt even attempt to O/C with those temps btw.

I am using the standard silver cooler master heat sink/fan 4600rpm, w/ 3 extra fans in the case. a smaller 4600 blowing down into the sink. No other thermal paste besides the white goop that comes on the sink. I will look into artic silver II, but that will not be an issue if I can not unlock the multiplier. :D
VoyagerMyth I would strongly recommend you upgrade your stock HSF to a SK6 ThermalRight. AMDMB are after doing a review of the top copper heatsinks and the SK6 has come out on top. My T-bird is staying cool at 40-41C loaded....awesome HSF.
Do yourself justice and get one of these babies today with a delta screamer.
The little T-Bird that could......

make sure you sit the SK6 as far as possible away from teh edge with socket462 on it. the SK6 does not have a cut out for that and may it it not allowing full contact with cpu die.

The ThermalRight is a little better than the MCX370, but not quite as good as the Swiftech MC462a. For what you want to do, the SK6 is an excellent fan. I get about 20% overclock on any of my CPU's with temps under load around 45c - 50c.
To answer your question in the top post as to the L1 bridges - If all the bridges are factory closed, your chip is unlocked.
