Turns out the powercolor 9600pro I got won't refresh over 60Hz properly, so I'm sending it back. I originally was going to spend around $100-120, and I spent $112 on this. It overclocked to 450/670 and was stable. With it OC'd I got around 12000 in 3dmark01se (with xp2500+ @ 2.2Ghz (200*11)).

Anyway, I can get the same card again, get a 9600xt, or get a 9800se (powercolor 256bit) and try to softmod to a 9800pro. The 9600pro is $112, the 9600xt is $137, and the 9800se is $157....

Any help? I think I'm leaning toward the 9600xt

If it's the 256bit 9800se, I'd get that and try to softmod it to a 9800np.

Tell me how it goes- I researched the softmod some more and thought about the prices and went with the 9600xt.. went the sissy way :( but it'll be plenty fast enough for the games I play.

Wow, ok this is some BS.. I just got this 9600"xt" from fedex today, and I think, "hmmm.. this card looks exactly the same as my 9600pro did." I didn't think too much of it because they are both powercolor cards, but then I looked at the part numbers. EXACT same f'ing part numbers. So I instal the card. Somebody flashed the bios from a 9600pro to a 9600xt and it shows up as some off brand xt. I try to OC it, nada. It won't even hit 520 core (stock is supposed to be 500).

I'm thinking I might think twice about ordering from your reseller again... 'course it could be an honest mistake.....

Well, it was recognized as a 9600xt in windows, they just didn't take the time to check the part numbers. This is all from newegg.com. Their customer support isn't bad, I've just had bad luck with the refurb bin.

This has all led to me buying a better card, a -retail- 9800se (256bit) that I hope will softmod to a pro or xt.
