i had an ULTRA 500w psu to use with my ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe mobo. what would happen is this:
power the pc up and nothing would happen. hard drives spinning, cd rom spinning, but no boot, not even bios splash screen.
removed the ULTRA psu and put in my old 300w HEC:
upon boot the bios would say "overclock failed. hit F1 to enter setup".
I sent the ULTRA back to tigerdirect.com for a store credit. So i guess i have 2 questions:
Are ULTRA Psu's crappy?
Is there another issue that i may have overlooked?

My pc seems to run fine with my old 300w HEC psu.

Im new here, so only throw small rocks at me if this post is in the wrong spot. :p

*edit* the ULTRA would power up my old P4 1.4ghz Intel D850GB mobo with no noticeable problems

Below is a picture of a 300W Ultra from TigerDirect (http://www.tigerdirect.com). I wouldn't say that it's the worst-looking PSU I've seen, but it doesn't look much better, and I've never seen another PSU where the high voltage and low voltage heatsinks weren't kept physically separate. According to the UL registration numbers (www.ul.com -- Online Tools), this PSU and the 500W Ultra were made by Wintech, not one of the better manufacturers (not to be confused with Win-tact, a supplier to PC Power & Cooling).
