I have been using AMD chips for a long time now.
I am interested in building a P4 system.
Searching this board it seems the 875 chipset is what I am after.
My question is this.
What are the different cores for P4's right now.
When I search the board I get fragmented info on the different cores and what that means. I know back when the P4 first came out the core kind of sucked.
Any info is appreciated

P4's are currently using Northwood and Presshot (Prescott) cores. Willy's (willamette) are old and no longer in use
Quick run down
Willy, .18 micron 256K L2, stay far away from this one
Northwood, .13 512K L2 , most would say this is the best core, never versions have HT.
Presshot, .09micron, 1024K L2, dont let the exctra L2 fool you it has a 50% longer pipeline than Northwoods... Runs Supper hot and isnt that great of an overclocker. Think watercooling if you plan o overclock this CPU.

Bagers, It would seem that the Intel is going to use the "Prescott" as the wave of the future but for now they generate a lot of heat.
By most accounts they seem to overclock well and actually do not post impressive benchemarks until you overclock them.
I have a 2.8E that has been running stable at 3.6 but I did have to do a cooling mod to my case otherwise it would run hot enought to cook dinner with.
For now my vote would be to stay with a northwood.
Just my 2 cents

EE is too expansive...if you getting an EE why not spend the money on a FX?
3.0C is the best!!
I have to agree with most of what's been said. However, Prescotts actually do overclock well, but you need exceptional cooling. The new Prescott stepping will be out in a couple weeks, so maybe they'll be better. Right now the Northwood is probably the better choice. The best bang for the buck is probably the 2.8C, but the 3.0C tends to be the best top speed overclocker. Lots of folks are hitting 3.6 to 3.8 gig with good air cooling on the 3.0C.

Got that right. 500+ extra bucks for 5-6 FPS? Please.
Northwood baby. Overclock it and catch it up to an FX-53.:attn:
