View Full Version : nice mouse mod
i just finished modding my mouse.. looks GREAT.... its the cheap intelli eye optical mouse by M$.... took it apart and spray painted the white plastic a metallic blue, and changed the red LED with a white one i bought at the shack..... cost: white LED = $4.99+ tax; metallic blue spray paint = $3.99+ tax (home depot)...
peace-out,

Does it still work? I thought all the optical mice had red LEDs for a reason?
nope...... it works great. i wanted to use a blue led to match the mouse (painted metallic blue) but i heard that the blue is a lower wave length, so i went with white....

We getting a picture of this mouse?
Speaking of mouse mods, Ive been thinkin of rippin those autofire circuits out of my gamepad and moddin them into my mouse. This could give some nice autofire luv'n for online games : ) Well, it does have a little stink of cheating...

would an infrared led work better?

i realy doubt it since it DOES detect light... now if you are willing to risk messing the mouse up, you can try it... though i REALLY doubt it would work..... plus, you're going to have to replace the circuit that detects light and to find one that detects infrared with the connectors of that one would be hard if not impossible.....
the circuit looks something like this........
___
-|___|-
-|___|-
-|_X_|-
-|___|-
on the other side of the "X" is the hole for the sensor....
hope that was some help....
oh.... i would love to post a picture, but i dont have a digi cam....
or..... i wonder if it would show up on a scanner ;)
ps...
i also "trimmed" down a little chunk of plastic that make a faint click on the wheel of the mouse when you scroll.. not click, but scroll.... now i can scroll SMOOTH....

i scanned the bottom of the mouse using a 40$ scanner.,....
i dont know what brand the scanner is, all i know is that they went broke before i bought it........
this is not an invert. though it DOES look like an inverted original one.... but it isn't

First time I've ever seen a scanner used like that - good resourcefullness :)
Nice mod Maiof, a mouse is a pretty unusual thing to mod :D

Yeah, there was a reason why red LEDs were used...I would keep the original, if I were you! I plan to change mine to a blue to match the rest of my mouse, the lovely Logitech iFeel...already metallic blue and silver! Just the damn red light which contrasts it
