is the 256 and the 128 a completly different card??
or is it the maker of the cards( ati,sapphire..) make different styles
if so whats the mod for it

If his is a BRAND new Sapphire, it's possible that he has the 9800 XT board and R360 chip -- essentially he has an XT card with a Pro bios flash.
At least, it's possible.

it is brand new.
so the xt board is a different layout than the pro board layout????
what would be the voltage read point for the gpu and mem????
thanks for the reply

If he has one of these uber-new boards, you just need to voltmod it like a "normal" 9800 XT. Which, yes, has different mod points and voltage reading points than the Pro.

Here is a link from another thread, http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=85, you can get all your 9800XT modding info here. If your friend's PCB matches the XT PCB reguardless if he bought it as a PRO, he will have to mod it as an XT because that is what it is. I bought a Sapphire 9800Pro 256mb, intentially expecting to a XT core and PCB, and I did, once I flash it, it will be a fully functional 9800XT for $296.
