after cracking my first core last night, I did some thinking and decided to invest in some shims for my bartons.

Problem is that i cant find any that are for barton, anyone know of one that works with this chip

How did you crack it?

Shims often times do one of two things: They don't work at all, or they increase temperatures far past what they're supposed to be.

Most of the time, they'll do both of these. The only good thing I've found with using a shim is that you can't 'roll' the heatsink, cracking the corner of the chip.

Every other time, the shim will be a tiny bit thicker in one area, and thinner in another area, or just not the right height at all, lifting the HS off of the core.

Stupid me, I slid the heat sink on the processor and chipped the corner of the die.

Like I said stupid me. Happened at about 1am last night.

Lesson to be learned, never replace a heatsink on lack of sleep.
