View Full Version : Strange stuff with old P2

Got hold of a old pII rig(abit bh6 mobo). First of all i couldn't get the cpu to run stable without bumping the voltage to 2.1v(0.1 over normal). Second I tried to run CpuZ. It reported it to be a PentiumII300, when it's suppose to be a 450. I thought I remebered that all P2's and better are multi-locked.
Rebooted and tried to change the cpu multiplier for to be sure. It didn't work as expected. What is going on here? Is CpuZ failing to report the cpu name?
Anyone?

Don't know how that works,
But most motherboards will default to 66 FSB.
The Pentium 450 was a 100 FSB CPU (I think the 400's and 450's were the 2 first CPU's that used 100 FSB). But since the boards default to 66 mhz, it will appear as 66x4.5=300. Thus the reading.
Set the FSB to 100 and you should be fine.

I am having the same problem here :o
I just bought a pair of 450's and a pair of 500's and neither work in my oard because I can't change the FSB. I tried changing the multi via dippers but it still posted as a 300 and 333 respectively.
Damn damn and damn again. So I'm on the prowl for a 100 fsb dually slot one board

That is just the problem FSB IS set to 100(x4.5). The point is that cpuz reports it as a 300...Wait a minute... This is NOT a 450. Its a 300. CRAP!
Well, well, that explains it.. But then again who cares. It's stable at 450 with the extra voltage.
Thanks!
Only P-II made before August 1998 were unlocked. All the rest are multiplier locked.

Mine is locked for sure, but a 50% OC isn't bad. Or should I expect more? Stepping is sl2yk(malaysia)
