What's a good fan for the AMD 1.4 GHz socket A cpu? I don't want a huge bulging fan cause im scared it'll break something.

Is the dragon orb 3 from thermal take any good?
hyperbob, you should get the Thermalright Sk6 copper heatsink. Its the lightest copper heatsink you can buy....ca 300grams. You can get it with a delta screamer.
Personally I would ignore the orb type HSF especially the dragon orb since it is extremely heavy ...500-600grams.
The little T-bird that could.........
I use one of these monsters "OcUK Super ThermalRight SK6 (Socket A/FC-PGA) " but you cant run it off the motherboad (draws to much juice, you can get the standard fan for it. but if you want one scroll to the bottom of the page below!
hope that helps

Why can't you run it off of your Motherboards fan header.? It's only a 37.6CFM Delta 6800RPM fan. Although I've not used one so I guess I would'nt know. But I've run 92mm fans off the fan headers before. Unless the delta's suck a lot more juice?
Well anyway this is the HSF I just ordered lastnight for my 1.2 gig. It's the "Mighty Machine". It's an SK-6, with an 60mm to 80mm fan adapter, w, an 80mm sunon fan. Suppose to be very quite and very good.
Not bad
i was looking at one of those in ali
as for the fan, i ahve blow one board ( abit ) by running it off the motherboard with a enermax 500 watt power supply.
I'm very glad that I stumbled onto this thread, because I was getting ready to ask the same initial question that Hyperbob asked.
I've just purchased a 1.333Ghz AMD T-Bird, along with a Thermaltake Chrome Orb, and needless to say, I'm very disappointed with my Chrome Orb (thus, I would not recommend the Dragon Orb, just for fear it would be similar). I can't get my cpu temp below 57celcius, and I think that's horrible. I've been searching everywhere for reviews, opinions, and recommendations for an excellent heatsink/fan for my cpu, because I want to get another one ordered asap. So far, I've been leaning towards the Gladiator, and after seeing what Would71 wrote, I'm getting even more convinced that that's what I need.
But like Hyperbob, I am also very interested in hearing from other AMD owners, regarding their recommendations on a heatsink/fan combo, because lord knows I sure made a poor choice initially, and now need to correct it.

Anybody know what the AMD retail fan looks like? What are the specs? I can't seem to find out about the retail fan.

Well, if sound isn't an issue, go with the SK6 or the Gladiator with a Delta Black lable 38CFM fan. But be warned that it is LOUD. If sound IS an issue go with A) watercooling or B) Melinnium Glaciator. The thing is heavy though....but thats not too much of an issue for me. The clip is EASY....I had the Chrome orb on my system up untill a month ago, that thing was hell to take off!
