View Full Version : A few old work units....
Hello!!!
I haven't run Seti for a while, but I've been seeing the team here in the forums so I reinstalled it and joined the team!
I bring a "few" old completed work units to the count too....966!
THAT should help the tally a bit!
Hey I just did this todayand joined the team at seti's site: my question- how long until my stats get added to the teams total? Any idea?
I just checked the group's totals, and if you are "Doug Getgood" in SETI, your results have been added!! (9:20 PST)
Welcome to the SETI team!!!! Hope you enjoy it!
JigPu
:edit: Unless SETI just added you to the team without re-calculating the totals... :end edit:

Been my experience that your WUs will mingle into the teams total from "instantly" to a little more that 96 hrs later...
I have a looksie at the server when I get done here..

Welcome to the team!!!!

Happy Crunching!!!

Thanks for the welcome;
I'm trying to run multiple instances of the client, can't see anything but the first? Any suggestions?

Actually I had a gui client running and didn't want to lose the unit, so I am running 1 instance of it and just got 2 of the command line going. Is it more efficient to run multiple command line instances, or just 1 faster?
I am going to uninstall the gui ver. as soon as the work unit completes.

Run 2 just make sure that you set the afinity for each process. Or download SetiSpy (http://pages.tca.net/roelof/setispy/SetiSpy.exe) and put one copy of it in both directories, rename them setispy 0 and setispy1 and goto this page (http://pages.tca.net/roelof/setispy/instructions.htm#client) and configure them as shown.
Yeah... Running multiple instances only really works with a multiprocessor machine. I think one instance on a single CPU is much better than running 2 on one.

His signature says dual PII 400 so I figure he is running a dual setup.

Welcome To The Team !!! Crunch on !
Maestro
Stupid me... ^_^; I don't really read the sigs unless they stand out for some reason. Sorry!! That's just me being stupid again.
OK, just make sure that each client is using a different processor and you'll be fine.

Oh No! More competition for the top 50! LOL
Welcome to the Team!!
Well if you want competition- I'll have to get the proxy going again and get the other 2 pcs crunching! Maybe even see if I can toss some franken-pcs together too! LOL
I'll have to do something since I'm cheap and all my stuff is old!
I never bothered with the command line version before, but quite an impressive speed difference: looks like half to 75% the time to process a w.u.!
Allrighty then!
Finally managed to configure the connection sharing in w2k.
2nd pc is running seti!
Unfortunately the firewall doesn't seem to recognize(??!!??) this pc so I'm running naked!
I guess I'll have to break down and buy the router so I can run all this stuff, and my site, without constant tweaks. Tweaks should be for fun, not just to make it DO something!
I'll have to check the forums to see which router is best; any recomendations will be considered!
Now to set up pc #3!
two things roger, i like command line on my single cpu machine. runs the same as having two instances running so oh well. on that router issue, i recommed somethings that werked for me. download winxp. runs the nt kernal so you can still keep your dual cpu. get the pro version cause the home version is only single cpu. it has a nice built in firewall that werks very well with ICS. just my two cents.

Welcome to the ONLY team to crunch for!!!!!
ok team:
I am done (for now!) I have 3 pc's crunching away now, my guess is around 4 wu a day.
What I have running:
the dual 400 with the command line client going in two instances- I will be tuning it for best speed that still allows me to use this pc.
450 mhz with clc running 1 instance
233 mini box with clc
I may build some franken-pcs to crunch if I can dig up full sets of hardware- flooding last spring wrecked most of my ancient motherboards!
Crunch till ya drop!

You might want to try SETI Gate software here (http://gss.myweb.nl/seti/)... this should keep all your boxes safe behind the firewall (as one box controls all the admin of WUs & etc.)...
I have heard this is a GREAT proggy... going to use it soon myself...
anyone have any personal experience to add?
Good Luck & Crunch on!!!
Thanks Kris, I just downloaded it and I'll let you know how it works out
I read through the doccumentation it does sound cool.

I use SetiGate and like it. I found it easier to set up and more stable than SetiDriver (but I also know there were operator errors when I tried to use SetiDriver). One minor thing, SetiGate will "steal" one workunit from you as a means of paying for the program. It's a very minor issue, but just so you know.
SetiGate also has a nice logging feature for all of your WUs. It's nice to use because you can sort your completed WUs depending upon your curiosity...sort 'em by angle, or by time, or several other criteria, and then compare how you're doing.
