VERY unstable.

I have an NVIDIA GeForce 2MX and I eventually got the drivers working. I had to install XFree 86 4.1 and the kernel and GLX drivers. SaX2 (I use SuSE) refused to work so I had to edit XF86Config-4 by hand -> OUCH!

So 4 cups of industrial strength coffee and an hour and a half later my graphics card was working.

I the took a look at my disk usage. It was over 60% and I like to keep it <50% so I started up YaST and removed some packages, includeing the 'nv' GLX module. UNFORTUNATELY the symbol to remove pacakes is D for deselct, but I thought R was Remove, but it was REINSTALL!!!!

So another two hours later after redoing every config file by hanmd that SuSE had decided to crap in, I have it working. But the graphics are still unstable. I often have to rfeboot the X server a couple of times to get 1024x768. If the driver wont work, it resorts to 640x480 using the vga driver.

Heres the question. Can I edit XF86Config-4 so that if the nvidia driver doesn't work, it resorts to the fbdev driver, as I have vga = 791 in my lilo.conf?

Bless you Penguinfreak!

I have a few versions of Linux that I mess with because I like the idea of Linux and a lot of the features it has. Unfortunately, I have never put a pc to work with it because most of what I want to do is so hard to get configured in Linux!

People like you, that put in the time, energy and sweat, are the ones making Linux competitive NOW. And you are the ones that will someday make it even more so! I wish I could give you more than moral support, but I can't. If Linux was easy we'd all be using it!

GOOD LUCK!

give me a few months and I'll be programming linux GUIs with GTK or Qt!

I have began to learn C...........

PS

If Im allowed to plug my webpage, I would like to say that I will soon be introducing a Linux v Windows section. No guessing as to what side I'm taking....

Thanks for the encouragement rogerdugans!

I am running SuSE 7.2 along with a MX card. After installing linux (choose to install 3d support during the install even though it will be unaccelerated) I went to NVidia's site and downloaded the 2 rpms, installed them, typed in the command contained in the readme file and thats it! Very simple! Now I have Q3A, Unreal tourney, and Tribes all running great in Linux.

I also did the same thing in SuSE 7.1 to and it worked the same way there to.

Unfortunately, the only people allowed to put the webpage URL in their signature are the Senior Members. There is nothing stopping you from putting the link in your profile however, and I would encourage you to do so.
