from all of the reading ive done, im lead to believe that radiators larger then chevette/bix are over kill if your not using a tec.

is this true, even with 3 blocks in the loop?

watercooling in general can be considered overkill, its up to you what to think. with 3 blocks, IMHO you would want a larger heatercore. if i went to 2 blocks, i might look into getting bigger heatercore. but in the end its all up to you. some people have 2 completely separate loops. one for their gpu and nb blocks and one for the cpu block.

The larger the surface area of the heatercore, the less the volume of airflow you need to get equal performance. So you can potentially run quieter with a larger heatercore.

Define "overkill."

To maintain stable temps does not require a large rad unless you are running very heavily overclocked/high cpu voltages/multiple blocks in most computers.

But a larger radiator does give you greater cooling potential as a rule, due to greater surface area.

Personally, I have always thought that a properly sized radiator is the biggest one that fits in the case. :)

the thing is, ive seen lots of pics with 3 blocks plus a resevoir being cooled by a single chevette or bix. i read something that 'even the biggest radiator' to a certain piont, can only do so much to effectively cool the liquid. they further said, all the radiators in the world will not produce sub ambient temps.

im not trying something here... im just trying my best to make the best choice for a radiator, so i dont have to waste money selling and buying the correct one. ive been told from my previous question that the radiator counts the most in a water loop. so, i dont want this to go to my head and get something too big.

is a chevette/bix too small for 3 blocks in the loop- cup, nb, gpu ?

would a double chevette/bix2 be enough? the hardest choice im faced with is the radiator, only because i dont want it bigger then it has to be.

A chevette will be plenty too cool 3 blocks in that loop in my opinion, but the size of your overclock is a considerable missing variable also. You will get fine temps with it though, as long as you have fans moving enough air through it. Using a heatercore that can fit 4 fans may get good performance and be quieter than two fast fans on a chevette.

i got my 2.6c @ 250[1.57v] (5:4)
its good and stable.

my plan was to just 'tool' around with my case and have some fun with a water project. although, it would be nice if i could get abit more then what you see above.

i can load windows @ 265 fsb, with 1.65v, but its not prime stable. this is all on stock, solid AU intel HSF. not sure yet if it s the cpu or the ram hiting the wall. something tells me its the cpu, from all my readings here.

from your experiences, how far do you think i can take it?
