View Full Version : monitor stops responding, turn off for it self
hi all
(for full system hardware see my sig)
i am runnig know asus a7n8x rev 2 board with amd barton 2500+(230*11),
every things working fine here for 6 month.
there is a new probleme . the system turn off for it self,
it look like stand by all fan work ,hdd ,motherboard but monitor turn off
so i just push the rest button and every things start working fine again.
after the system start it may work fine may also switch off
so i just push the rest button again go into windows run 3dmark 2001 if my system work that mean ok if not it switch off and push rest and try again
1) my temp are fine for cpu and mobo there is no rist for overheating
2) agp frequency already set to 66 mhz
3)psu rail looks normal
when my system start it work fine for a day or two but after restart it and changing bios setting the probleme start again
i have figured that when i run at stock of every think the probleme desapere i am know runnig at 166*11 there is no probleme
tried 200*11 two hours ago worked fine without monitor turn off
retarted tried 230*11 also worked fine
again restarted tried 225*11 monitor swithced off
note : 230*11 has been tested with prime for 36 hours withour error i am runnig at this speed 6 month
first time i see somthings like that it s look like there is no signial video
tried another video card (9600 radeon) the probleme still the same (system may work normaly may also switch)
changed setting in windows startup and recovery :
checked automaticly restart : no help
unchecked it also no help
it is not a bosd the monitor turn off all fan work ,
need to push the rest button or turn off and power to get it working again
anyone can help

Does this happen right when you are using it? Has it ever happened at the 230x11 setting?
i never had this probleme
just 3 days the probleme is started
sometimes when i start up my pc it work fine
sometimes the monitor turn off i tried to run winamp in backgroud to see if the woll of the sytem turn of or only the video signial
so i figured that wianmp also is turned of
motherborad lead is lighting checked voltage
for psu ,ram , chipset give me (1.85v,2.6v,1.85v)
that s look like a shut down but mother board and all hardware
still have the same amount off voltage
for exp :yeasterday i have runned prime at priority 10(blend....)
at 230*11 for 8 hours without error . today just power up my pc booted to windows and the system switched off
so just pushed the rest boutton booted to windows runned 3d mark 2001 in the second test system turn off
rest button again changed setting to 166*11 =work fine
two hours ago restarted go to bios set 230*11 work fine
any idea???

I have this issue...CPU just shuts down...but system stays on...for me this is a CPU voltage (thermal wattage) issue...when I OC the voltage too high and put the system under a load...the CPU will kick in the OVP protection and shut the CPU down...
my cpu temp is good 25c idle 35c load
i have runned it for six month at this speed without probleme(see sig)
also when i went to bios i set 200*11 with default vcore the system turn off after a while there is no high thermal wattage at this speed
also i have tried another cpu on my mobo ,this cpu runed an abit nf7 mobo at 220*11 with 1.8 vcore with thermal take volcano 12+(stable system)
and the same probleme
tried also my cpu an this abit mobo and there no probleme
any idea

So this CPU restarts by itself but the other CPU doesnt...correct?
no this is the same for borth.
the same probleme with two cpu.
(mean the probleme is not the cpu . this is another things)
any idea?????????

Ok...what about the PSU...how are the voltage rails? and what PSU is it?
Also, how hot is the NB running and have you checked the mosfets and seen if they are running real hot...
i have antec true power 480 w
according to motherboard monitor
12.01 v
5.03v
3.36v
still stable underload and at idle
my case temp is 16c~18C
i am using two heat sink (one on the north bridge other one on the south bridge)
borth have 80*80* fan
north and south bridge are very cool to touch

do you have a multimeter that you can use to measure you voltages on the board itself...dont trust a software program...
also...have you ever changed the NB heatsink...or put AS5 or 3 for the thermal paste?
1)yes i have one.
2) checked right know
without prime~ runnig prime
12.05v~12.15v
5.03v~5.05v
3.35v~3.35v
3)yes i have changed the NB heatsink and applyed As5 the same for the SB

This might be something of the weird...but have you tried replacing the battery?
-no i dont have another one.
but i have checked it also with multimeter it s look ok.
the strange things that the system some times work fine at 230*11(24h maybe more or less) as long as i dont restart it
after restart it may also work fine or may turn off
note : it not turn off directly
it can handle 10 or 15 min off prime testing after turn off
or after runnig 3 d mark 2001 (second test)
also after 30 min of web surfing

The only thing I can think of...is a voltage issue someway with the motherboard...almost like the OVP is kicking in...but not totally...have you checked all of the CAPs to make sure none is leaking or starting to buldge...and have you felt them when you had prime going?
soory dont understand what is CAPs?

CAPS = capacitors

Could it be that the voltage regulators overheat? Try adding some heatsinks to those mosfets.
is that mean that mobo will die soon if capacitors is leaking or starting to buldge?
yes i think that this was the probleme i remouved my mobo from the case it s know on my table and i have no more this probleme runnig again rock solide at 230*11
i think that somethings in the mobo was overheating(voltage reg,capaci...)
i have 9 fan in my case 5 *120 4*80 i have very good air flow
so think that somethings is going wrong with mobo it s know require better coolling to run stable
i think also that it will die soon
do u thinks the same ??
will be better to get a new one???
thanks for your help glock19owner,DaWiper,IMOG :) really u helped me a lot thanks and thanks again

I'm no expert, but leaking caps will result in instant dead mobo sooner or later.
i have 9 fan in my case 5 *120 4*80
I hope your not running all of those of the mobo fan connectors. Most motherboards can't handle that extreme amount of fans...

It wont result in a instant dead mobo...the caps can be leaking for awhile before the MB does...the 8KHA+ had caps that leaked...used it for about a year before it finally crapped out...but then it also depends on how bad they are leaking...now one that burst...thats instant death and/or fire...
Yes, your MB can litterly catch on fire from a CAP exploding...

Ok, I guess I was a bit fast on that one. But, afaik when a cap leaks it's value will probably change. Some caps will be more important for performance than others.
So, in a worst case scenario...instant dead mobo.
well :) asus a7n8x die on half off year with little overclock
30 fsb increse only :)
asus are producing a very stronge , product :):)

ok this is my first post in these forums (which i decided to join due to this problem..)
im having a similar issue..
except i have a gigabyte ga7n400
all that i did was go into the bios
and change fsb to 200
(it was on 166)
thats ALL i changed
i saved and exited... my comp restarted and the monitor turned off
with no signal..
the computer continued to boot without the monitor on..
i do not believe that it fully booted becuase i did not hear a beep where there would be one after the first bios page..
so then it just sits there..
im stuck.. and have no idea what to do
