Well, after about a month of being happy with my Melinnium Glaciator I think it's time to take my first step at overclocking. *queue the fanfare*

So, I decided to make a big weekend project. I would make 2 intake holes on my side case, and while letting my dremmel recharge, I'd unlock my CPU, clean it off, reapply AS2 and such.

All's good right? Right....and wrong. I got through one of the holes, and realized it was a bit crooked, not too bad for my first dremmel useage EVER though. That night I did all the stuff to my CPU/HSF. I alcohaled the base of my Glaciator, and reapplied AS2 to the core. Then I got out the magnifying glass and promtly "unlocked" my cpu with an American #2 Pencil.

I realized that my drill had gone kaput, and since the dremmel won't fit 5mm bits I couldn't finish my hole project. But I booted up, temps were fine, 39ºC. I then restarted, and went into the bios in attempt to overclock.

In the Bios, I see where I adjust the FSB, but where do you adjust the multiplyer? It's nowhere. So I realized that it did not unlock. Da*n you pencil!!! So, where do I get a conductive pen? I have since tried 4 times, whiping off the bridges with acetone each time, and none have been successful.

But just to be sure, the multiplyer should be in the BIOS right?...

anyway, Heres a picture of my case mod....nothing special, but I'm happy with it.

Yes, the multiplier settings should be in the BIOS. Look around for it some more, or check to see if it's controlled by jumpers on your motherboard. It you still can't find anything about it, it may just be that your motherboard doesn't offer that option. Asus BIOSes should have this, though. Try flashing the latest BIOS update for your board and see if that helps. Nice mod by the way

Well, I just broke out the Asus A7V manual, and it is jumperfree.....so It must not be unlocked correctly. I found a section that discribes using dip switches instead of using jumperfree. Looks simple enough, and would save me some cash, so how do I disable jumper-free mode? Do I still need to unlock my CPU?

Thanks about the mod

Here's another pic just showing the guts of my PC, its a big mess, and I'll fix that next weekend. My friend took the pic, crooked isn't it? =p

Just activating one of the switches will do. Try to update your BIOS, and yes, you will still need an unlocked chip

I also have an A7V, as well as an A7V133. On my A7V there is no adjustments for the multiplier in the BIOS. This adjustment must be made on the motherboard with jumpers. I don't remember what revision I have nor which BIOS I have. I bought the board around the middle of Sept. last year. Maybe a BIOS update includes this feature. The A7V133 does have the multiplier in the BIOS and on the board as well.

I hope this helps.

Good Luck!
