ok is it possible that my 1.2 is actually locked even though the L1 bridges appear to be joined????????? has this ever happened b4?
the funny thing is it happened to both my cpu's and both appear to be unlocked. and on that if it were locked would the bios allow me to still change multiplyer settings or would they be shaded out like the intel mobo's????????
axia 9 C 1.2 L1's look joined to me....

That's really wierd!
I don't know why you can't change the multiplier, but I have a T-Bird with same stepping, and my multiplier wasen't locked. I have no problem changing it on my 8KHA. Maybe something is wrong with your motherboard.

It is, however, possible that there is the slightest fracture in the L1 bridges undetectable to the naked eye. Have you looked through a magnifying glass to check? Have you tried penciling in the L1 bridges and trying that way?

Actuall I don't think I've ever heard of anyone getting a 1.2 gig T-Bird that is locked. So far everyone I've seen or heard of were all unlocked.

Put the cpu in a friends comp and see if it allowes multiplier changes. Then you will know if it is your mobo. Maybe you need to flash it a new bios and reinstall mobo drivers?

The mobo drivers have nothing to do with overclocking. Have you even tried changing the multiplier? I would try overclocking via the FSB first. But flashing a new BIOS can't hurt. Just make sure you do it from a clean boot floppy and not from within windows. I have heard of people doing that and totally hosing thier mobo's.

I'm not sure about that particular motherboard but on some you have to set a jumper, to enable the user define option on the motherboard or in the BIOS. Otherwise the CPU will be recognized at the default setting as defined by AMD.

Check your manual or the manufacturers website for details of your board.

I hope this helps.

Good Luck!

thanks for the replies ,well actually i dont have any AMD friends here in australia ,but they want to sell their intels for AMD so i have no other system to try the cpu on ,secondly YES i have tried to up the multilyer , and fsb separately and together ,in minute amounts and medium amounts to no avail. i will try to pencil the bridges first as they just may be cut in a way they are too small to notice [ i dont have a magnifying glass handy]
so ill do it tonight and let you know what happens.............thanks again
