Notice this over @ vr-zone.com

NVIDIA has a new driver for the GeForce 6800 series -- version 61.11. Compared to the 60.72 driver, this new driver features:

Around 5% boost in Aquamark

Around 5% boost in X2 performance

Around 5% boost in Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness performance

Around 10% boost to Call of Duty performance

Over 20% improvement in Far Cry performance (fixed a z cull bug)

Last one looks interesting :D

Download these NOW if you play Far Cry.

I have a 5900XT clocked at 450/800. I used benchemall to test at 1024x768 max details.

My frame rate went from 38 to 44 and best of all, the really screwed up textures are gone. Max details is actually playable now where before it was quite hideous. Maybe I'll beat the game a 2nd time. ^^ Oh I got the 38 score with 56.64 btw. 56.72 caused artifacts in C&C generals, and 60.72 made my TV output black and white.

edit: Hmm. Some people from Beyond3d are reporting a lot of known IQ issues with Far Cry and 61.11. However, Far Cry does look beautiful now for me. So if you had issues with very high settings like me I'd still stay these are worth getting.

just uninstalled mine and returned to latest official nvidia ones from their site - ut2004 had horrible artifacting and IQ in farcry just disapeared....

What card do you have and what map? Just tried UT2004 to see if I get similar problems. I played a few maps in instant action and some of the initial single player maps without any issues.

I've only just started playing with these, but initial results below:

Resolution Detail Starforce 61.11

1024/768 Max 50.1 51.58
1024/768 Min 75.15 76.33

1280/1024 Max 39.55 41.23
1280/1024 Min 74.28 75.51

1600/1200 Max 28.11 29.58
1600/1200 Max 67.06 68.94

So, not a great improvement, but is has cured a problem I was having which resulted in textures which where illuminated by my torch being drawn in white (I previously had to lower shadow and lighting quality to 'low').

I have a 5900Ultra flashed as a 5950 (see sig). I was playing just the default instant action cycle of bombing and onslaught levels... all became unplayable - fine now with the older drivers

IQ is nasty on FarCry - fog etc. seems to be pretty broken;

Starstorm drivers (http://www.btinternet.com/~rumoon/FarCry0004.jpg)

61.11 drivers (http://www.btinternet.com/~rumoon/FarCry0008.jpg)

(Ignore fps counter; other setting were different but the problem still remains when settings are set the same for both drivers)

Interesting. What drivers were you using before Ru? I compared with my 56.64 and actually images are all looking the same-that being more like your 61.11 image. Guess I've been missing out the whole time on something.

Oh sorry, thought Starstorm meant something else. I'll go read up on them. ^^

update: Argh, tried Starstorms X driver and while it added the fogged trees into Far Cry, it also added artifacts to C&C generals just like the reference 56.72 driver it's derived from. And the yellow textures and strange shadows are still present in Far Cry.

Guess 61.11 remains the best Nvidia driver for me. I eagerly await a starstorm 60.xx driver though. ^^

I'm going to go back to vanila 56.72 (WHQL) drivers, and see what this does as far as IQ and performance goes.

BenchemAll is better than nothing, but due to the AI of FarCry, sometimes the mercs are in different places which probably affects the fps very slightly.

I may record my own 'demo' to use in BenchemAll which does not include any mercs - although this will not be 100% representative, at least it will be consistant. Also, the 'demo' used in BenchemAll is very dull to watch once, let alone more times... (what were they doing?) :o

this driver has worked wonders for me the performance increase in far cry is massive theres no longer any hiccups or slow down and my fps have gone up by about 10-20 fps at times sometimes more!

and i havent noticed any problems at all in c & c generals zero hour and no problems in halo and omg look at halo when i put the textures up to high they look amazing now were as they used to look very good

im happy! :D

Any chance of nipping up the tower in the fort on the Treehouse level, and posting a screenshot like mine (see previous post)?

I'm curious to see what sort of IQ you're getting.

lol i just realised wot u ment haha
yeh i see what you mean by it but the guns lightening looks better (when you fire) and the game has speeded up dramticly so im happy to me this IQ is a minor niggle

Well, back to 56.72 WHQL - results aren't that different fps-wise, but IQ has returned. If I feel extra-keen, I'll try the 60.72 beta drivers for comparison... <edit - added 60.72>

Results so far (in a format which works - why can't I get them to line up in my previous post???):

Max Detail Level (1024*768):

56.72 = 49.43
Star = 50.1
60.72 = 51.93
61.11 = 51.58

Max Detail Level (1280*1024):

56.72 = 40.17
Star = 39.55
60.72 = 41.34
61.11 = 41.23

Max Detail Level (1600*1200):

56.72 = 28.75
Star = 28.11
60.72 = 29.29
61.11 = 29.58

Min Detail Level (1024*768):

56.72 = 74.74
Star = 75.15
60.72 = 77.44
61.11 = 76.33

Min Detail Level (1280*1024):

56.72 = 74.55
Star = 74.28
60.72 = 76.51
61.11 = 75.51

Min Detail Level (1600*1200):

56.72 = 67.79
Star = 67.06
60.72 = 69.37
61.11 = 68.94

I don't think much of the standard BenchemAll loop, so I'm going to record my own, with no mercs or monkeys etc. (due to AI uncertainty) and including close-up water and interior sections. This may take some time (I hope someone's interested )

Ru

Okay, me again!

I recorded three demo loops to really try and get some valid results (no mercs/monkeys and minimum birdage).

One was an exterior mplevel, one a nighttime mp level and the last an interior on the training level (trying to get dynamic lights involved).

Only done 60.72 and 61.11 drivers so far; I'll try and add 56.72 when I get a chance (this takes ages to do). I'll also try and put the results in graphs soon to make comparisons easier...

Exterior Level

Max Detail Level (1024*768):

56.72 =
60.72 = 75.83
61.11 = 77.69

Max Detail Level (1280*1024):

56.72 =
60.72 = 56.84
61.11 = 56.84

Max Detail Level (1600*1200):

56.72 =
60.72 = 40.66
61.11 = 40.73

Min Detail Level (1024*768):

56.72 =
60.72 = 125.55
61.11 = 122.35

Min Detail Level (1280*1024):

56.72 =
60.72 = 109.16
61.11 = 108.06

Min Detail Level (1600*1200):

56.72 =
60.72 = 81.51
61.11 = 81.42

Night Level

Max Detail Level (1024*768):

56.72 =
60.72 = 67.16
61.11 = 66.94

Max Detail Level (1280*1024):

56.72 =
60.72 = 51.60
61.11 = 51.75

Max Detail Level (1600*1200):

56.72 =
60.72 = 37.09
61.11 = 37.12

Min Detail Level (1024*768):

56.72 =
60.72 = 108.71
61.11 = 107.18

Min Detail Level (1280*1024):

56.72 =
60.72 = 107.88
61.11 = 105.96

Min Detail Level (1600*1200):

56.72 =
60.72 = 91.50
61.11 = 91.03

Interior Level

Max Detail Level (1024*768):

56.72 =
60.72 = 75.96
61.11 = 75.89

Max Detail Level (1280*1024):

56.72 =
60.72 = 49.71
61.11 = 49.73

Max Detail Level (1600*1200):

56.72 =
60.72 = 34.49
61.11 = 34.51

Min Detail Level (1024*768):

56.72 =
60.72 = 170.51
61.11 = 169.46

Min Detail Level (1280*1024):

56.72 =
60.72 = 169.08
61.11 = 167.71

Min Detail Level (1600*1200):

56.72 =
60.72 = 164.47
61.11 = 163.42

So (if you've read this far down...) at least on my rig there's nothing to be gained from using 61.11, only a massive amount of IQ to be lost.

60.72 looks about the best at the moment :o

Noooooooooo...

I re-installed the game after loosing sound, and my demo loops are gone. Sorry, no 56.72 to directly compare.

yeah that looks really really messedup. I wish nvidia would just get a nice IQ going. We should have to juggle drivers for each game to get best iq/speed.

I tried those drivers also, and had terrible crashes and Farcry wouldn't even load. I switched to the Starstorm's, 57 series, i think, Im at work and can't check specifics. But have been v ery pleased and like the built in clock adjustment.

i just installed them (fx 5900) and farcry is running much better!

i even bumped some of the settings up a little more from where i had them with the 60.72 drivers.

no problems so far, but i haven't tried any other games yet.
