Many places sell AMD cpus in a retail box. I've been wondering about the specs of the Fan/heatsink that comes in the box WITH the CPU. Hasn't anyone gotten a 1.4GHz Tbird in a retail box?

The heatsink/fan assembly that comes with retail cpu's is very poor. If you get a retail cpu, the cooler should be replaced by one of higher quality.

its been the general consensus that retail hs are fine for normal use if your going to OC and I assume that's why your here :D then perhaps a little research into the subject will shed some light

P.S. cooling would have been a better place to post this:D

I've read that copper ones are the best. What about alum.?

Material, design, and worksmanship all contribute to how a heatsink performs. Copper transfers heat better, but a copper heatsink will be heavier and more expensive. Many aluminum heatsinks have a copper base embedded into them, which allows the heat from the cpu to spread across the entire heatsink more quickly. Personally, I have a copper heatsink (Glaciator) and am very happy with the performance.
