What kind of mouse do you people use, or recommend? Should I go with an optical or trackball? And please dont say a boomslang:rolleyes:

Well...of course it's just my opinion but...I just purchased a logitech optical mouse and I will never switch back to a standard mouse again.

The precision, instant movement, USB or PS2 capability, they just rock. I did not expect a huge difference and I was pleasantly suprised. And the optical thing is just awesome. The logitech mouse has an opaque bottom so the laser shows through the bottom half of the body of the mouse....the chicks love it!!

Good luck on your final decision!!

I have a Logitech Mouseman Wheel Optical. Best mouse I've ever used, and I used to have a Razon Boomslang. Those side buttons are MURDER on your thumb and pinky finger during hardcore phragging.

The Mouseman Wheel Optical has the best feel of all the mice I've ever used, and the DPI is almost as high as a Boomslang when you turn up the PS2 refresh rate.

Before OLA-CA shut down their UT servers, I was ranked number one for 4 straight weeks--the only 4 weeks I played, thanks to this mouse.

You will NOT regret purchasing this mouse. And if anyone says anything good about Microsoft mice, they work for Microsoft, or are one of Bill Gates house slaves. Do not trust MS mice. They go out INSANELY easy. I've had this mouse since they first came out, and it's still going strong. Havn't ever had a problem with it. Plus, they look DAMN cool! It's got an extra ultra-bright blue LED under the shell where your palm rests (The opaque Logitech logo).

Awesome, AWESOME mouse.

I have "2" Logitech mice, one on each sys.

I use the Duron sys for gaming and will NEVER go back to reg mouse again.

Optical all the way, nice smooth aiming, of course that's playing UT.

I love my optical logitech trackman wheel marble. I never have to move my hand (just my thumb) and I can strafe and turn all day long and never have to pick up my hand to reposition my mouse.

i switched to optical two months ago, and I agree with everybody else, it's impossible to ever go back to a regular mouse... i now swear by the iFeel mouse, it is the ultimate for Quake III/CS in my opinion... very accurate and the iFeel technology is pretty cool on the desktop, in games with force feedback it's just awesome... adds a dimmension to the game you wouldn't expect... your mouse rumbles! :D

and no it doesn't rumble enough to through your aim for you hardcore 3rd person shooter people... :)

Optical MOUSEPAD? Why would a mousepad matter if you're using an optical mouse, if you dont mind me asking?

Optical mice read more precisely off different materials... some mousepads have a sheen or design/material that reflects too much and causes mistracking (like mirrors=no tracking).

The mousepad I have has little glare and a very fine weave... bought at Best Buy for $20, included a gel wrist rest and matching blue design (with my mouse).

Razer Boomslang is IMHO the best there is for gaming. The 2000 DPI resolution and the ability to change it on the fly is the best feature.

TT120, I agree the Boomslang Rocks!! But keep in mind that if it ever breaks, you are on your own, Mine is 6 months old and the Mouse broke, I wrote to Karna and this is what they told me:

Unfortunately, kärna LLC, the parent company of Razer, had a funding
commitment fall through and has exhausted all cash resources. Therefore,
effective July 9th, we were forced to discontinue providing customer and
technical support, as well as warranty service. We are currently not
shipping any product and have ceased manufacturing and have no active
retailers.

kärna continues to explore all viable funding, alliance and acquisition
opportunities in order to find a solution that will enable kärna to continue
to develop and support its award winning computer input device products.
Please watch our home page for updates on kärna’s status and whether we will
be able to resume providing customer services.

Rob

And the company that was handling the warranty refuses to honor the 3 year warranty!!

I am in desperate need of a mouse, I want a mouse that is "black" so it can match my keyboard/system?

I was about to buy a "microsoft" optical mouse, do they really suck?

I was under the impression that " logitech" was cheap "made in China" crap, what is the best brand?

People always think things made in China or Korea or Maylasia or Japan are poorly constructed--not so. It's just far cheaper to hire 15,000 workers in Korea to assemble pens then it is to hire 500 workers in the US to put them together.

It doesnt matter where something is made, what matters is the qulity of the pieces and the contruction. I'm sure every single piece of hardware Microsoft has ever made, save the development and prototype pieces have been made in China or Maylasia or Korea.

That said, Microsoft input devices ARE crap, the ratio of people posting bad things about MS and bad things about Logitech (and good things about each) is 4 to 1, in favor of Logitech.

IMHO, Logitech is the best of all. (Except specialists like the Razor Boomslang and what not)

(Edit) My mistake, I looked at the bottom of my old mouse, a Microsoft optical (the cheap white one), and it was made in Mexico. Also a cheap labor country (Nothing against any of the countries listed in this reply)

I bought a cheapo Dexxa Optical mouse for $35CAD. The mouse isn't perfect. Sometimes when you want to do a single click, it does double, sometimes the button doesn't work at all. (its not software related, its the mouse itslef. I checked. :) ) But I think its holding ok, considering that I beat the crap out of it whenever it doesn't listen to me! (which is almost every day) :D

I'd rather use this optical "thing" than some other ball mouse.

I like China, Korea, Malaysia, Japan, and Mexico they produce some of the finest women in the world, and Krome would know:rolleyes: Been there... done that...got a bowl of noodles!

So Logitech, where is a good spot to pick one up cheap?

Almost literally any computer-related store. Best Buy has the best displays of their products, you can poke, feel, twist, mangle, and tear whatever you want to see if it'll hold up to your standards. Also try CompUSA, Circuit City, and the Good Guys.

If all else fails, look in the phone book under "Computers", and check out some local shops.

I still agree w/ TT120, Razor Boomslang is the fastest, most accurate and durable mouse available, whoops, past tense. I have had mine for 18 months and have yet to break it. I play UT Tournament, Q3 Arena, Sam, Diablo II and Deus Ex, if that does not destroy a mouse, well call me Sylvestor. ( Oh, the shame, me father beatin' by a giant mouse)

The Boomslang is the best mouse, but not very many people want to pay $100 for the crappy 1500dpi mouse, or $200 for the 2000dpi model. That's just way too much. Did I mention Logitech rules? Yea, I think I did. Oh well. Logitech rules!

The Boomslang is WAYYYY overpriced! Don't bother, go with one of the new Logitech optical mice...they're by no means cheap crap, them and Microsoft have been fighting it out for ages for the best mice...it all depends on what shape you like, but I think the regular logitech design is by far teh best for gaming. I would also recommend the iFeel, if you've got a few extra $$$ to blow, or especially the new cordless optical mice from logitech, very snazzy!

Yea, I think I did. Oh well. Logitech rules! I got a brand new Boomslang 2000 for $85 off E-Bay and it works killer. Very well made mouse. I dont see it breaking any time soon. I am looking for a backup one though just so I never have to worry about not having one when I need it. I can never go back to a regular mouse again.

I have the Microsoft WheelMouse Optical, works perfectly fine, and bought it over 4 months ago, never crapped out, didn't have to install any software (I could, but the mouse worked when I plugged it in, so I thought "Hmmmmm, why install a software for something that works fine without ?!?!?!"). Anyways, I don't work for MS, and am not a Bill Gates Slave, LOL.

Just to say mouses are personal choises : you like this one or not !

my 0.02 $$$

P.S.: my mouse had a 10 $ rebate at future shop, so it was only 20 $ can

I use a Logitech TrackMan Wheel Trackball. I can frag with the rest of them with it and have won a $5000 Heavy Gear II tourney with this very trackball.

But the learning curve takes a while.

Stay away from the Razor Boomslang. Both of them. They are nice, but highly over-rated. They are also on their way, if not already out of business so warranty issues and replacement parts, and tech support will be nill on these mice.

I use a sony optical mouse and I like it, it has a rocking switch instead of a wheel so I can always choose my weapon precisely. Also, I use an Alvin cutting mat (!) for a mousepad, it has the same surface as ratpadz and co. plus its semitransparent so the light from the mouse gets diffused, looks cool :D

Bought my Aopen optical wheel mouse for $16.
...and geuss what? It's a Logitech optical with Aopen logos all over it! The ones we're shipping now don't even have the Aopen logo on them. Still kinda partial to my Wingman gaming mouse. Not the response, but the shape of the thing. nice and beefy.

i used the BACK SIDE of a mouse pad for my mouse pad now
i have been using this mousepad for 5 years and the reason i cant use the front is because the cloth layer is crumbling

let see how long this mouse and mouse pad survives
it's really accurate now

My favorite is a 3 button glide pad. When I get the money it's a graphic's pad of some sort.

It's a stand alone similar to what a laptop uses. I would like a larger version like the graphics pads used by cad machines and graphics programs use
