View Full Version : How far are you from the end?
From having a nearly unupgradable computer? I mean, my system is basically one of the top gaming systems you can build (XP1800 oc'ed to 2.4GHz, 512MB of BH5, a 74GB Raptor, a 9700AIW, an NF7-S, and an Audigy 2), so it's getting kind of hard to upgrade anymore. I think that the only thing left that's actually worth it would be the power supply, to add more stability to my overclock, and to find a mate for my single 512 stick of BH5. Outside of that, I don't really see much left to upgrade.
Today, I found it worthwhile to get a UPS to protect the whole thing. A very valuable upgrade to me, but completely useless in terms of any sort of performance enhancement.
So the question is, how much more money would you have to spend to get your computer to a similar point as mine? If you guys feel like sharing, what is it that you need to upgrade?
Please don't go crazy and say you want to upgrade to quad Xeons with 4 gigs of RAM or anything like that; I just want to know what would deck out your computer for the platform it's at now (Socket A for AMD XP's, and whatever is Intel's main socket right now). If you're using an older computer than PentiumIV/AthlonXP, then just denote that your entire computer needs upgrading.
Thanks guys, I'm looking forward to seeing the responses :)
Edit: Sorry guys not in the US, but I use the dollar ;)

Well, lets see here....
I have a fairly decent system at the moment, which should last me at least another 1.5 years (hopefully). There are a few areas I would like to improve on.
1. Add a 36.7 GB WD Raptor + SATA RAID card ($170). The reason I want to do this is because I want to have my main comp for games + programs, and move the 80GB over to the file server I hope to build in the near future.
2. Add an Audigy2 + Logitech Z-5300 ($220.50). I've had my current sound setup since my first homebrew comp, and I figure it's time to give it a bit of an upgrade.
I think thats about it. Total comes to $390.50. Too bad I dont even have the cash for that right now :)

Well considering I'm running a 1.6ghz duron (modded to XP and running 2.2) and a cheap nf2 board and cheap PC3200 with a 8500le...the video card alone would put me back 200...1gb of RAM a cpu and mobo would definetly set me 601+...won't even touch with the raptors.
But for the few games i play (CS and UT2004) my system shrugs em off like it's nothing!
Quite honestly, there's nothing I feel the need to upgrade right now.
Except for the video card, 1st generation 36GB Raptor's and the 2 120 GB UDMA/100 HDD's, this box is top of the line.
I have a dual XP1700@1.73GHz system with 1GB PC2100 RAM,GeForce Ti4200, DVD and CDRW and 2 40GB HDDs. When I upgrade, I will just replace the lot. The board only does a 266FSB, the RAM is only PC2100 so I will just replace it all when I upgrade. I dont really see the point in upgrading chunks of my PC now - the bottlenecks are really the FSB and RAM which can only be solved with new board, cpu and mem, and more or less replacing a large part of the PC.

Once i get my r9500np, i just need to spend bout 100 on KVR with hynix chips. Then i'll be set for a long time :P
There's quite a bit I could upgrade on my system. CPU, Video (but I'm happy with my current), hard drive, PSU, motherboard, RAM, or mouse.
Probably could spend $300 easy on upgrading this sucker to something good :D

My whole thing needs an upgrade. I feel that I'm at a dead end right now unless I change platforms. I don't feel the need to upgrade past my new Barton. It seems pointless to me to upgrade my Radeon 9500 Pro when the next generation of cards is just about to be released. My NF7-S does everything I need, and then some.
I would like to get a DVD burner, but I don't feel that I have the need for it. The only time I use my CD burner is to copy Knoppix or slipstream something onto my XP CD.
The only thing that seems like a viable upgrade to me is a new computer, which I don't need. This one fits my needs very well. But, if I were to upgrade, I'd wait for a PCI Express Athlon 64 board, and put 2 gigs of RAM in it with a mid-range Athlon 64, and high end PCI Express Radeon. Thats still a little ways off, and by the time I feel the need to get a new motherboard, it'll probably be 2006.
But I still need to upgrade the whole thing! My upgrade paths for this computer are getting too limited for me.

Theres nothing i need to upgrade right now. But im kinda debating what to do. Im thinking of buying a build it yourself electric guitar kit on ebay. That would be fun.

I don't think that there is anything that I need for my rig. About the only thing that could use an upgrade is replacing my 5400rmp 120GB hd with a raptor or two.....and maybe a dvd+-rw drive.

since my computer is so new its not assembled yet, I think its pretty top of the line. only things that could be done, 64bit, 9800xt instead of just pro, more faster ram instead of the gig of pc3000 I have.
sadly all this pretty well hinges on the first thing, my PC isnt upgradable, itll be replaceable in 2 years for a 64bit setup.

well, i just bought the dvd+-rw, since my old cd-rw died rather completely. But, now i have to upgrade my mobo, proc and ram. the old athlon 1.4 (this is not an wthlon xp) just ain't cuttin' it anymore, especially with that sdram, usb 1.1, and agp 2x motherboard. So, it looks like i'm goin' in for about $500 in a new board, proc, ram and video card. Won't that be lovely fun? Well, while i'm at it, it's time for a new case, among other things.......lots left to go........

Thats about $460 for them. id like a new video card but my old one is doing the job. So video card is gonig to wait

I am thinking
fx55 939PIN and ATI X800XTPLAT in June/July with MACH2!!!
Upgrade the Opteron when the first 90nm come out.
And if someone release a mount for the LS or Mach2 for socket 775, then I will go 3.6P4 with PCIEXPRESS ATI.
Of course I may snag one of those water cooled 6800ultraextremegetinthekitchenandbakemeapie cards.
Then I am done with upgrades for atleast a year. (Minus when the 533 xeons are dirt cheap, upgrade servers!!!)
i'm prob gonna spend between 200 and 300 on a new vid card prob just before summer starts

well I didn't vote as I'm really happy with my system at the moment (1st rig in Sig) I don't intend to upgrade anything soon although if i did it would be the graphics card to either the winner of the new ATI - Nividia Running or sound card to what ever was the better on th market.........
But esthetic upgrades, well psending $220.00 On window etching (This covers new side panel, window cut, art etched and then shipping to Japan) Also I'm moding my monitor so the sheet polycarbon is around $12.00 a sheet and i have already had 3-4 test runs. So in that case i best vote $300.00 for eye candy!
Watercooling, one of those 35w Mobile Bartons (I have a bum T-Bred), and maybe a new keyboard...

Case, power supply, especially a case, I destroyed mine when I tried to use a jigsaw for a window, apparently you need a clamp. I'm going to pick up the Wavemaster unless I see something that fancies me.
I'd like a power supply with (at least) two SATA connectors, even though at the moment I'd only be using one, everything else is top of the line, or within margin.
Whoops: I have a really great case that I've been wanting to mod like crazy, rather than spend $150 on a Wavemaster, I think I'm going to pick up some supplies for it.... soon.
well as long as they're are newer and better games than my comp i willalways upgrade...till i have to jack in, then ill stop.

Since I do not game, I dont need to upgrade but most of my computers are far from the top of the line...
i have just ordered a 36GB Raptor and a NEC DVD burner. the rest of my system is in sig.
next thing is a new video card, but probably i will wait a few month till the prices settle a little bit.
also a gig of ram would be nice, but the prices are just too high right now.

I tend to stick with stuff that is about 6 to 12 months old when I purchase it: better price point for new, save money by snapping up others old stuff when they upgrade, etc. :)
You kinda have to be cheap when you run 7 machines 24/7...;)
But in reality, I have no NEED to upgrade anything- I have three rigs that can game decently as they are, even if I need to turn off some eye candy in one (integrated video and all!)
But NOTHING is bleeding edge....
I have only been bleeding edge once: when xp 1800 Pallys came out. :)
However......I DID just buy a new (used) video card- not from video needs, per se, but because I am not quite right in the head sometimes. ;)
I need to get a modern ATI video card running flawlessly in a linux computer, so I had to buy one. :)

My good rig only needs a surround sound speaker set.
For gaming, my second rig desperately needs a new monitor, mouse, video card (9700 pro on the way), and a surround sound speaker set. The current 14 year old Dell monitor doesn't work so good anymore :D
Voodoo Rufus
05-10-04, 02:45 AM
For a complete rig, I'd say $200-300 for a new GPU. Sure a pair of Raptor 74GB would be nice (one even), but my rig runs pretty sweet as is. Enough to last me until an entire rebuild.

Need a new hard drive (the 80 gig ins't "big" anymore) preferably an SATA about 160 gig $115.
And would like a nice video card 9800 pro would be nice $225.
Finish my WCing system, $100
So about $440

i need a new soundcard and a good hard drive and im set.
9800pro
512 bh-5 good for now
mobile barton at 2.54
80 gig 8mb
ABIT AN7....all the vdimm.......3.2
Tt 480 awsome
anted p160...beutiful
watercooling going back in..need new res
I need a new Hard Drive, preferably a 120 gig 7K250, a new pair of speakers, and a new monitor (mine has a scratch on the glare coating, if anyone knows how to fix this, PM me), as my dad wants to take what I have to work so it equals a new, better monitor for me anyhow. :)
A DVD Burner would be nice as well as another 512MB of memory, but I don't seee the justification in it yet.
Other than this, my system is basically set for another year and a half.
Upgrading my pc ... if only I had the money for it :(
I'm basically on a dead end right now, thanks to my MoBo and it is exactly that what I want to upgrade: CPU and memory.
So if I keep my lovely ECS K7S5A:
AMD XP 1700+ -> Athlon XP-M 2800+ (2.1 GHz) (145 Euro)
2x256mb pc133 -> 2x512mb DDR (110 min. 240 max. Euro)
So for +- 300 Euro I'd be happy for a while again :) Vid-card is fine, monitor is fine, PSU is fine, I don't need extra HDD space nor speed ... hmm, perhaps a new keyboard (some keys aren't working anymore... hehe).
I just realise, even though I have a k7s5a I can still make a pretty good system out of it :)
*edit* $301~$400 was what I voted for.
There always seems to be something else to add.

See sig for specs, but looking at my rig, the only thing worth saving is the 512mb Samsung, and the 80gb WD. The mobo is crap, the CPU can't OC at all, the vidcard is a good 3+ years old, stock heatsink, the cd-rw drive is ghetto'd and wont open without using the paperclip thing, I could save my DVD-rom, but it wouldn't be worth it.
I plan on jumping into a socket 939 system, and getting the new ATI vidcard, all in all, I could dump close to a grand into the system I want, so I decided to choose the upgrade whole sys.

My main thing is better cooling. It is what is holding back my overclocking just now, and I know I have a lot of headroom in my hardware. I even have my SLK 900A, but as yet not fitted.
Sure I could do with a 9800 Pro, but I'm not a huge PC gamer so what is the point in spending more money? They were still rather expensive 6 months ago when I built the PC, now they're the same price as the 9600 XT was.
Still, it will do for Command & Conquer and Counter Strike for a while yet. I'll get a decent card next time around.
But cooling, definitely need to work on that.

The only things I would upgrade would be to a Raptor and a gig of RAM. Neither of which I have any intention of doing. It is serving me very well. I wont put another thing on this system. My next upgrade will be to a 64 bit system, but that will be atleast a year possibly more depending on how long it takes me to find a job. (Soon to be College Graduate)
Mine still needs a lot of upgrading... but I'm happy with it!
I'm happy with my 2100+ but would like a dual Optron box instead. But will shut my mouth untill I get the cash to build one!!!
The only component that doesn't need upgrading is my Maxtor ATA133 HDD, but everything else is Jurassic Park Era... :D>

I don't care how good you build 'em, next month you can always upgrade or add something.
I consider my Xeon duallie pretty close to the top for the core system but I still have lots of room for more stuff. If you just count that SOTA IBM LCD screen and the pro 3D cards to drive it, I could spend $3k or more even if I shopped real hard on ebay.

My dually has around about £200 amybe left to spend on it in my opinion.
It could do with some more memory and a better array of hard disks, so for 512mb PC 2100 ECC thats umm £75, then same again for the 120gig, then the rest can go on watercooling the VGA and that lol

I have the rig in my sig. I am only running 1x 512 so I can get another 512 for Dual channel. I also am using an XP 2100 so I have headroom there. I figure I can get a 3200 or something when those are 'old school'. I also have room to grow on the video card. Other than that, I'm set.

I could use a good set of 5.1 THX certified speakers
Well what i think is that you can never really have a completley unupgradeable system, computer companies are always coming out with something new like the new ati, amd 64 bit cpu, more ram. more everything there is really never a point in which you can say that you have the a totaly kick ass system that cant be upgraded that is what i think. You can say that your system is kick ass because you have some top of the line parts at the time and then bam something new comes out, i always dont have like 5Grand just to spend on computer parts, if you really think about it to really have a awesome system if is going to cost you a lot of money so you better have a good job or something. That is my opinion. So as far as my computer goes my computer is not kick ass at all, it still runs most of the games fine but i would like a bunch of new stuff but i just dont have the money to spend on it.

The question was "How far are you from having a nearly unupgradable computer?" not, "How far are you from having a completely unupgradable computer?"
I know very well that everyone has some room for upgrading, because new things are constantly coming out, but how many people want to spend the huge amounts of money required to be on the bleeding edge? Not many. I want to know how many people are happy with their current systems, and don't think that they can get much better without a major upgrade (over $600). If you're set up like me, it's really not worth it to change to AMD64 or to Prescott, because I'd have to basically rebuild my system, wouldn't I? Then I would be on the bleeding edge, but I wouldn't be happy, because I just plunked down $1200 or so to get there. It cost me $1200 to get to where I am, and I'm very happy with my system.
Please don't crap on my poll ;)

I'm TOTALLY upgrading my computer:
Dell Dimension 4300
1.6ghz P4 Willy
512MB PC133 RAM
Radeon 9600XT
Soundblaster Audigy
Into this:
Abit NF7-S
Athlon XP Mobile 2600+
2 x 256MB OCZ PC3200 Enhanced Latency
Radeon 9600XT
Soundblaster Audigy
Lots of other goodies.....
I'm shooting for under $700 for the new system. It'll be the first one i've built. Or overclocked for that matter.
You've obviously done your homework. Best of luck to you with your overclocking :)
kiyoshilionz: Watch out, you'll need a PSU because as those Dells use a proprietary configuration that looks the same as ATX but can quickly fry your new motherboard
As for my upgrades, I need quite a bit. An incomplete list:
Everything needed for watercooling except a pump.
Active cooling for my NB and SB.
A new video card.
A new PSU.
Better memory.
More hard drive space.
A new case (No, really. Mine sucks.)
A UPS.
and more that I can't think of right now.
Altogether it comes up to quite a lot, I voted for the highest amount.
If I could get all that stuff, I'd have quite a nice rig though. However, it's not really worth upgrading this rig, I'd rather wait till the next generation of *everything* comes out in a year or so, and get a brand-new high-end rig.

Buut, I can't settle with that, gonna get a new graphics card sometime this summer, leaning towards the 6800GT atm. After that I'm not gonna get anything until xmas, when I'm planning to go a64 s939.

Silly me. Less than a month after saying that, I go ahead and sell my computer, and buy a Socket 754 system. Hopefully FedEx gets it here by Friday.
Although, I must say, I didn't need to do it. It was just a friend's computer was crapping out on him, and I couldn't allow him to have 64-bit before me. So I told him save money, buy mine. So instead of $400 for a new computer, he paid around $200, and then I paid about $60. :) All is well because he has a great computer minus the video card, and I'm going 64-bit. :D

$601+, only thing top of the line would be my DVD-ROM haha... I can dump my ram, pick up 3 sticks of 256MB PC-133, I can pick up a 52x32x52 cd r/w, perhaps a pci sata controller along with 2 74gb raptors and set em in raid 0 "if this mobo can do that", if not... 1x80gb 7200rpm hdd, slotket + p3-s 1.4ghz OC'd... hmm I'm not sure how fast...or slow of a gfx card that system would bottleneck so lets just say a... 9700pro, keyboard mouse...7.1 sound card + speakers... thats what i would need to upgrade this untill it couldnt be upgraded anymore... also GBit NIC. i would might as well liquid cool that p3-s..... i'd say it'd be cheaper to just go a head and build a whole new system.
could use another 512mb of ram... better video and sound.
I'll never be done upgrading my computer. The fun in building is the proccess of upgrading. Even a top of the line computer will need upgrades in 6 months. :P

I need to upgrade EVERYTHING... Possibly even my 15in LCD. I may just mod it to a black thin frame though.
I'm giving up on this system now. I finally got my AIW 9800pro, and that's probably the final upgrade for my XP platform. Now the bottleneck is the whole system.
My next computer will consist of:
A64, unsure of speed. whatever's gives me the most mhz for my $$$
Nforce 3 250 mobo
1gig of BH5
Dual 74gig raptors
Dual (whatever the largest HDD available is)
Water-cooling. Hopefully with a storm G5 WB, and dual 77 bonneville HC's.

Klipsh promedia 5.1's
Audigy 2
4x20 LCD. I couldn't live without one of those.

2x120 and and 80gig hdd.

I put 600+ because of a new video card and hopefully some raptors, but that won't happen unless I can find a job this summer. :/ Also, I would like to say that I will never be done, because as soon as I get those, I will want/need something else, and so on and so forth. It's a vicious cycle, lol, but I love it.

Never... When I get bored with dumping money into my Pentium rig, I just start dumping money into my AMD rig.
I think I have enough spare parts in the closet now to build three more computers, all I need are cases.

Where did you pick up a 3.0C for that price? I would jump on that deal, was it a refurb?

My system is pretty much top of the line in my eyes. I just built this comp 2 weeks ago, after upgrading from a P4 1.4Ghz willy, 256mb rambus, 20gb hard drive, with a GF2 64mb video card. The only thing I would really upgrade is probally the video cooler to a waterblock.

I am finishing off my basement and putting in a home theatre. And what good is a home theatre if you can't play games on the projector the way they were meant to be played, with all settings maxed? As soon as the parts come out, this is what I am ordering. The absolute top of the line.
Socket 939 AMD fx-53 or fx-55 if it's out
DFI s939 mobo
1GB OCZ pc3700 EB
2x WD 74GB raptors
BFG 6800 ultra waterblock edition (470mhz core stock)
Pc power and cooling 510 deluxe with custom external pots (Already bought)
Coolermaster ACT 101b (the best case ever imho in both craftsmanship and design) (already bought)
Plextor 16x SATA dvd burner
Plextor premium 52x 32x 52x cd burner
Sound Blaster audigy 2 ZS Platinum
Logitech z680's for use when not using home theatre (already have)
as for the cooling, I will be getting
100% pure silver G5 block by Cathar
Dangerden 6800 block (to replace the crappy koolance block the bfg comes stock with)
tygon tubing
swiftech mcp 650 pump or something equivalent or better
dtek customs procore/120mm fan (have already)Zerex Super Racing Coolant 12oz
Criticool Power Plant relay
Danger den Double 5.25 bay res (already have)
All this will be displayed either on a sony 19in trinitron CRT or a High definition projector shooting onto a 120x90in Da-Lite cinema screen in a dedicated home theatre, with (as my plans stand now) dantax vision two loudspeakers in the front, infinity rears and center, and an svs ultra 1000w sub.
Try upgrading that  ;)

I just put the computer in my sig together last night. Abandoned most of my old computer, but brought over the drives and the video card.
My next upgrade will be a couple SATA drives (probably the 36GB Raptors) and a new video card (probably the 9800 Pro)...
I'll do the video card first, I think. Doom 3 is begging to run better...

SB Audigy2 zs Pt
NEC 8x dual layer dvd burner

Well, at the moment I need updating majorly (Using an eMachines, lol.) But by christmas I'll have my new system (see signature) which I am not planning on updating for a while... Unless there is something I really want.
I'm at the max for my motherboard. Getting a better baord soon, probably an ABit NF7-S2.

My stats are in my sig. The only thing that really needs replacing is my video card, which won't be for a little bit yet, as I refuse to spend more than $200 on it.
Of course, once that's done, I'll need another computer to play with ... hmmm ... maybe a duallie ...

This computer probably won't be seeing any more upgrades. That and the fact I can't really upgrade it much more (KT333). It does what I need it to do. I've already dumped enough cash into it. I voted top of the line, but it really isn't. I'm not dumping a penny more into this rig.
If I do get a new computer, it will be more geared toward silence and not performance. I hate loud computers. I might even consider getting a brand name .

I have a new thought about this...
What END????
Right now, I don't really need anything.
Well if I don't have anything to upgrade right now, just check back with me when I get that shiny paycheck in my hand. I always tend to "find" needed upgrades after payday. I'm pretty much happy with my systems right now, a few things here and there bother me, but overall it's alright.

My upgrade options are limited, but, on the other hand, very simple: Buy some cheap, newer, integrated motherboard. Every so often I just pull it all out in one piece, and put a better one in. I change the RAM then too.
Tweeky upgrade schemes are for perpetual hardware shoppers, and the knowledge aquired to keep abreast soon becomes obsolete and so much useless trivia. I know this from when I owned a 386 DX, 66MHz, and all the ill-fitting parts that went with it.

alright new plan for me, if only that DAMN DFI BOARD would come out
I'm going to start ordering parts in a little bit that won't likely drop in price, like the vapochill. Going to wait till the last minute for thingsl ike the fx-55 and 6800. The memory is becoming scarce though, I may pick it up next time I see it.
Here's what it will look like as soon as the dfi board and fx-55 are out.
Coolermaster ATC 101b (already recieved)
Pc Power and Cooling 510 Deluxe Custom (already recieved)
AMD Athlon 64 FX-55
DFI s939 nf3
1 GB OCZ pc3700 EB
BFG Geforce 6800 Ultra OC or X800xt-PE CANT DECIDE
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
Vapochill LS Phase Change system
170w GPU TEC block
Swiftech TEC Northbridge block
Eheim 1250 (already recieved)
Dtek ProCore (already recieved)
Dangerden Dual Bayres (already recieved)
Linksys Wireless G Speedbooster (already recieved)
EDIT: forgot the drives. I'm going with el-cheapo cendyne burner, a kenwood 72x cd rom, and a toshiba dvd rom. For hard drives I'll use a 80GB I have laying around until I can afford two raptors. ITs going to be an odd combination of parts lol.
Tell you the truth, I sold my old 4ghz system much to early :( I thought these parts would come out and mature much quicker than they have. I've been without a main gaming rig for months now, and can't wait to get back into it. I've been stuck on a spare 2.2ghz/9700 pro machine that is rather crappy.

Ya, its fun beginning to piece the parts together. I just bought the linksys setup today (figured it wont drop in price and I can use it till I get the rig done in my second machine) and the psu is really, really nice (I got it a while ago with custom external pots on 3 foot wires adjustable a lot more than factory spec ;) ). I'm getting the vapochill for myself for my birthday I think lol. I'm doing this cuz I really don't want to have to upgrade a lot over the next couple of years, as soon my money will be going to more important things unfortunatley :-/ If I don't go all out now I won't have the chance to for a while. It's taking forever to save up for though, and its even more annoying when the parts keep getting pushed furhter and further back. I am waiting till Christmas at the absolute latest; if the parts I want are still not out I will get temp parts and sell them at a loss when new ones come out or just stick with them depending on my financial situation.
I need a new everything. :)

Need - nothing
Want
-9800pro -> X800 XT
-2.1 speakers -> 5.1 speakers
-19" monitor -> 22" monitor
-2X512 PC3200 -> 2x512 PC4000
I might get the RAM since I have 2x512 sticks of PC3200 Buffalo Tech to sell. I may also get the speakers or maybe a set of headphones.
The other stuff is dreamlist and I will likely wait for a new build.
So I voted $200-$300
I want a Neo2, an A64 3200, and a x800pro. That would about do it.
EvlMinion
01-10-05, 10:40 PM
Mine's about as fast as it gets for any reasonable (although I don't guess it was even that...) money. It's a 2500 MHz Athlon 64 with 1 GB of RAM and a Geforce 6800. Sure I could get more performance, but at a huge CPU cost and I think if I wanted a substantial increase in video grunt, it'd be SLI and a couple X800-whatevers. $1000+ for video, $1000 CPU, $200 mobo when it runs all the stuff I want just fine? Nuh uh. ;)
I consider my computer 'done' for now, til the top end A64s fall a lot. I guess if you go for maxing out what I have right now, probably I'm well over a thousand bucks out.

FX 53, 6800GT past ultra speeds, 19" LCD, Raptors and SATA HDDs...
I'm done for a while. I'm not buying into the SLI craze. All I need is my Razer Diamondback and I'm not upgrading until the next best gaming engine (U3, HL3, blah blah blah) comes out.

The way I see it is you will ALWAYS need an upgrade since they are always coming out with a new part or setup or whatever you can never really be top of the line fully. There will always be something else to buy.

Nearly done, picking up the Winchester 3000 and Audigy 2 ZS tonight, Saturday picking up the OCZ Powersteam 520 W and Logitech Z-5500's, Dual CCFL neon lights Blue. Then I'm done for the next 6-12mnths, after which I'll be looking into a DualCore/FX55-57 and Dual 7xxx GT? cards. (I'll see what technology brings us....)

Nice thread for those of us who like to discuss what we still need for our comps. :D
I personally would like an Nvidia GFFX5950 for running HL2 when I get it.
A new molex fan to replace my TTSFII (I killed my 3-pin connector on my mobo) OR
A watercooling setup...I'd need to research on that first...
Another 512MB RAM
SB Audigy Gamer w/ Logitech 7.1 Surround Speakers
I'm also considering getting a SATA RAID controller with 2 80GB SATA drives.

01-13-05, 11:12 PM
Considering my budget I will be realistic, I need 1 stick of 512 mb Kinston pc4000 HyperX ( I am running dual channel with another 512 mb Corsair pc2700 XMS but it is holding my memory speed back), and a Leadtek or BFG 6800nu 128mb. $450 should pretty much do it.
Thank all of you for your responses. From the results of the poll, it seems as though just about everyone can do at least some upgrading. There is money to be made off of us yet ;)
I just need to change my cdrw to a dvd burner. Thats about it.
