If you read the reviews on newegg, it would lead you to believe that modding the PowerColor 9800SE has a great chance of achieving 9800pro - it has 256bit memory which runs faster than the saphire model (2.7ns I think?).

How much reality is in this? Have people here tried it or heard of people trying it and success rates?

yes if it has 256bit memory it can be modded to a pro, maybe even an xt

I believe the chances are a bit under 50%, in probably around 40. Personaly, I wouldnt risk it, because you have a chance of getting a card that is only 2/3 the speed of the 9800. The 9800np is only $170, and im sure a refurb would be cheaper.

Ok with those odds I will NOT try it. I got the impression, reading reviews on newegg, that the powercolor had a good chance, and have heard people quote 2/3 chance in general, and especially for Herculese cards (they make the all-inwonder with it I think)

The chances of softmodding a 9800SE to a 9800 are less than softmodding a 9500 to a 9700, based on polls.

Yikes... well hopefully I will be able to find a used 9500 np already modded successfully, somone who is upgrading. That'll narrow the odds ;)
