View Full Version : Hot!!!
I'm planning on using a soldering iron to bridge the L1 gaps. Pencil doesn't seem to do it & no Conductive ink pens available here. The question is, How hot & how long can the cpu take the heat from the iron? What can I use to mount the cpu on while I work on it?
A-BIT KT7A-RAID
1.1Ghz AMD T-BIRD 200FSB(i want to unlock it to just 1.2 266fsb)
256MB PC133
Dragon Orb 3 copper(that was the best available!)
Higher you say? When it starts to cool of in this hot & humid country then maybe

Donot!!!!!! Solder your L1 bridges you will fry your chip immideatly. Go get a conductive pen from radio shack www.radioshack.com or goto www.plycon.com they sell this thing a piece of tape you slip over the bridges to close them. GL and please don't solder it will result in a fryed chip.

http://www.plycon.com/trace.htm << theres the exact url to buy it hf.
You sure about that tape thing? Sounds like something I can make, hahaha,or maybe not. How long would the tape last? I'm guessing that you have tried it with some luck. So you think the soldering is a bad idea, what about the articles on this site? NOT that I am saying anything, just trying to make sure.

I know one guy wrote an article on soldering the bridges, fine if you can do it but just bear in mind that was an electronics engineer (I think) with a lot of experience in soldering tiny SMD's before. I've heard of at least one guy who fried his chip trying to solder the bridges. I'd go with conductive paint if you can find it somewhere - I know a lot of people haven't had any luck with the tape from plycon. Like Reticulex says, don't solder the bridges, it's not worth it. HTH :)
A lot of people use rear window car defogger kits to close the bridges.
cost about 5$ for the kit. Plus I think you can clean it up if you make a mistake.
I tried the pencil again & this time it works!!! 34°C idle & 47°C-48°C at load(Sandra Burn-in Wizard 69X,got tired of waiting). Seems to be stable & relatively cool.

Now I got the bug!!! How long does the pencil last? I'm a little hesitant to take the HSF off again 'cause I kinda chiped the CPU but IT STILL RUNS! The manual says that MoBo can only recognize up to a 1.2Ghz chip max & need to flash the Bios,in no hurry to do,I am a new to the world of computers & not confident to flash Can I go faster?
