Ok, so i have this Q-Tec 5.25" drivebay watercooler, it was somewhat less than special, but after some case mods and AS5 i believe i have got a winner...

It is in the top drivebay, with 2 antec 80mm 2500rpm fans on the radiator about 15mm away. I have properly applied AS5 to the cpu/waterblock and OH MY GOD at idle my m/b reports CPU @ 39c HOWEVER... it is an abit. When i feel the waterblock, it is *cold* to the touch (lower than room temp metal) !!!

I'm going to put a temp node in and read the actual values, but damn this sounds good!

I'll include some pictures soon, if i get around to it.

Anyway my questions, i dont wana use this "Water Wetter" as i hear bad things about it, smell and residue with i would rather avoid with this poor w/c setup. So what could i use as coolant instead? I see people using antifreeze in it, as im in the UK do you have any recommendations for this? What sort of ratios to distilled water?

Thanks,

Although I am a noob, I have done some research and from what I understand Water Wetter and other "super coolants" use the same chemical... So the only thing I can think that you want to use is 5-10% regular coolant (antifreeze). This is to keep nasty stuff (algee and corrosion) from your setup. You also do not want to add too much of this stuff as the chemical used in normal coolant transfers heat worse than plain distilled water.

Hope this helps

I still hav'nt put my first water system together yet but everything I've read here and on other forums agrees with everything Bevman said

Thanks you two, good help :-)

Think i will go and look for some anti-freeze, add 10% of that to my distilled water.

Tell a lie tho, it is somewhere up to 5c higher than the block is when the PC is off. Under load, it is another 5-10 after that.

my abit mobo is the only mobo i have ever owned that is 98% accurate on temps. I trust my hardcano 10.

Is that a cage blower on your memory???

40mm fans? Yep. Got a 5.25" drivebay cooler, came with 3 for about £6.25 :-D Runs off one molex. Doesn't really help with much, Although i haven't pushed it...

Its not a heatercore, its a Q-Tec 5.25" watercooler, it has an aluminium heatsink (70x150) with a 4-pass system in it, not terribly efficient. I've maximized its performance -- I think it will have to do for this rig; next rig i will have something alot better. Damnit dont watercooler buying suck when ur a noob :-P I got talked into it (was going to buy a asetek watercooling kit)

And yes, that is a cageblower on the memory. Its ch-5 and i'd rather be safe that sorry with 3.0v thru em. It runs v.quite @ 3000rpm, the loud fans are the ones on top :x Although they didn't help idle temps, they lowered the load temps by 20c (Enclosed in the case the watercooling would reach 70 as read by abit temp monitor... :-o)

The graphicscard has a total of 5 fans. Lol. 1x P4 stock, 3x 40mm, 1x 70mm.

Anyone got any tips for spraying the case? I have some hammerite black spray, I guess a rub down, prime, base + 2 coats? Along time for no PC :-\

Nice man, you didnt need to prime the inside? Just sand it down?

I await pics and further info ;-)
