Hola, I am an overclocking n00b and I want to know how to get up to a ridiculously fast speed to make my gaming even more sexy. I use my comp for gaming mostly and I would love to get a 5 ghz machine going. Is there some way you merge the processors or something to get those speeds? Do dual, triple, quadruple processors work well with gaming?

Is it similar to when you could combine dual Voodoo 2's back in the day? I remember I had the bonerest system on the block when I did that, schooling n00bs in Rogue Spear with 24mb video ram /flex.

Does it make a large difference in gaming and is it really worth it?
I have a Shuttle XPC SN85G4 with only 240 watt power supply. Is there any way that I could increase the power supply so that I can do this?

Also, I am thinking of getting a SamSung 172x. Should I get that or another monitor? I want what is the absolute best monitor for gaming. Thanks.

EDIT: Oh yeah, your signature, it's a little too long, and we actually just had a Dungeons and Dragons post a few days ago, still around. Don't worry though, we don't have anyone who speaks like th15. :)

I will work your post backwards, as that's the order of severity.

Religion isn't something that's really openly discussed here, and advertising(even for free stuff) isn't really either, as a friend I'm just letting you know.

The absolute best monitor is the Dell 2001fp but it's anywhere from $800(on sale) to $1,000.

You aren't going to run dual processors and you aren't going to get 5Ghz, not on any of today's cpus. Neither of which is really needed that's why. If you want to get high speeds I'd recommend a Prometia or a Mach II, this is called phase change cooling. Oh yeah one other thing...

Welcome to the forums!!!...And the sickness.

I've seen polls and posts of people getting up to 5-20ghz. How do they do that and what can I do to get that?

You're reading something wrong. 2ghz, yes, 20ghz, never. Trust me, nobody on this earth has ever had a 20ghz pc cpu.

yah the highest i have ever seen was tom hardware got 5.0 ghz on liquid nitrogen (expensive cooling...) and 20 that is unheard of...

tom and daewood are right. 20ghz is just unfounded. unless you read something where someone added the amount of ghz they had running. i.e. someone saying they have 20ghz folding. They may have 6 machines running at a little over 3ghz. Even that i don't see often though.
Anyway, for all practical purposes, as tom said, a mach ii or prometiea is the way to go. If you happen to be a chemist who works in a lab and can easily get a large supply of liquid nitrogen, then 5ghz is possible but for any duration of time i can't imagine what kind of system you would have to rig up, or how much it would cost.
You could do dual processors. from what i've heard though, and feel free to correct me guys, it isn't going to benefit you much in gaming because games are just not coded to run that way.
Also it seems to me that no matter what you go with you're going to have to upgrade your power supply. A lot of people here will recommend fortron/sparkle. I personally have a sparkle and love it.
It also seems that a video card is what's gonna be a main concern for you, you should do some research on the new ATi's and the new nvidia's. Good luck with everything, and i'm sorry to crush your hopes of 20ghz.

Yeah, duals are definately not the way to go if you're just lloking for gaming performance. The absolute best bet right now for gaming is a top-end vid card and a decent monitor. Tom is correct in the Dell monitor. usually the word Dell keeps me very far from anything, but this is by far the best gaming LCD out there (although image quality can't touch my 21" Trinitron CRT :) )

Your best bet will be a new X800 from ATI. Every review fo these things that I've seen has spanked every other card out there. The only question is, will it run on your 240w (not 250w, per Shuttle's site) power supply. Unfortunately, there is no way that I know of to upgrade that :(
