Anybody seen this: software mult. changes in newer Athlon XPs?

I just ran across this article

http://tweakpc.de/tweaking/athlonxp_multi/athlonxp_multi.htm

I've only had the chance to browse through it in the original German, but it appears that they give an overview of how to use software to unlock the current batch of locked XP's. (If nothing else, the graphic on the first page gives it away. :))

Look on Page 5 to find the software download.

http://tweakpc.de/tweaking/athlonxp_multi/athlonxp_multi_5.htm

I'd highly recommend trying to fully understand it before giving it a try. I won't be able to test myself, as I have a P4. But I was curious if anybody had seen this yet.

*edit*
On this forum page:

http://forum.tweakpc.de/viewtopic.php?t=16137

They talk about success or failure with specific mobos with the program.

Some elementary German for you all:

CPU: - CPU
Mainboard: - Mainboard
Ergebnis: - experience
Notwendige Modifikationen - necessary modifications

Erfolg: success
kein Erfolg: no success */edit*

and in their poll

Funktioniert das Overclocking per Software? - Does overclocking by (this) software work?
Ja, ohne Probleme - yes, without problems
Ja, nach Modifikation - yes, after modifications
Nein, keine Chance - nope, no way

GCPUID can also change multipliers and voltage on the fly with a mobile AthlonXP. This will not work on nForce2 motherboards, so its pretty useless for most people. But when I was still running my kT266A board (which does support powernow) and my Tbred was alive, i did this mod and its kinda cool switching multipliers with software.
Also there's an easier way of getting all the mobile multipliers unlocked. What you have to do is connect the 2nd L5 bridge, as well as the 3rd L5 bridge to enable mobility

Ah, thanks for the tip.

Yeah, I got the impression from the article that it didn't work for the NF2-based boards as well, due to a lacking implementation of FID_Change in the chipset.

Just curious -- did they mean that this software works for non-mobile chips as well? Thanks for the cool info. -- Paul

i boubt it. I don't think that the "new" AMD chips will ever be able to get unlocked. They "only" way i c it happing is a mod to mobile then a NF2 board to change multis..... idk if that will or can work but hey.....it is nice to think/dream....the good thing is though that cpus stay around 4 a long time so there will almost always be enough of the old chips to go around.

First of all you can just go and get a Mobile chip in the first place, and avoid the whole hassle of unlocking the locked desktop processors.
second, modding a chip into mobile will only let software change multipliers, meaning that it can only be done from an OS. And nF2 chipset doesn't support PowerNow so its not gonna happen on nF2 boards. Only if a person had a locked chip and a VIA or SiS board it would be possible.

this news seems a little old to me guys have been doing this since the end of last year, or at least january can't believe it hasn't been posted here somewhere already if you looked for it.

you'll have to join but this thread has been going on for along time already

I beleive its called cputweak and I hear their trying to make it work auto style more like powernow which would be cool in a desktop, throttle up for games throttle down for apps.

Ah, thanks for the headsup. Since I've been out of the AMD world, I hadn't seen it until now (and just by chance). It's quite possible it was discussed somewhere here in the past. Interesting stuff.

And that would be very cool to throttle up and down in an automatic manner like you describe.

The newest Abit mobos have uGuru (at least on the Intel side), which allows on-the-fly FSB changes in windows (among other things). It would be neat to build an interface to that to change FSB lower when idling or just running silly things like office apps, and crank it back up during gaming, computations, etc. -- Paul

a question to The_coolest.

Tell me, how much time did you wait til your Mobile arrived?
In my case it was about a month.
Pandas - cheers:beer:
